This album alongside Tool got me through my mom's passing. I was 28 and left with my youngee brother. Dad never there and then died too. Everyone around me died in the span of 4 years or so. I lost everyone close and I would've given up if it wasn't for my brother as I couldn't bare the idea of leaving him alone and lots of music. Ounces of weed too. I went into a dark place. Almost gave up. I will always thank music and weed. It allowed me to gain new perspectives.

Hey Fern, glad to see you back! Hope you're doing better. So just a little context for this song: it's already heartbreaking as it is but once you become familiar with some of Tyler's earlier work it becomes even more so because for a very long time Tyler felt as if his dad had left him and his mom, which caused a lot of grief and anger in him. He showed animosity towards his father multiple times in his songs and even went as far as writing a whole song criticizing him ("Answer" from the WOLF album) and exposing the pain and anger his dad had caused him. So in "Like Him" he's not only dealing with an absent father but the fact that he is now finding out that his mom had a huge part to play in it. That is why the song sounds rather sad rather than angry and he even tries to comfort his mother and tell her that he won't judge her and everything turned out alright. He's realizing that his whole life he's hated his dad for something that the dad basically didn't do.
