The way I view this album is the story of a person lost floating through space until they find their purpose, the intro, you’re lost you’re scared and taking in your surroundings then in rawww you’re greeted by a more powerful confidence force who may have dark intentions, plunging asymptote you get sucked into a warping space that starts deconstructing you until you’re saved by a powerful entity or force who shows you the true meaning of life (the domes protection) then you get thrown back on your journey and you find the fun and joy of life and you spend time at a party with aliens or something along those lines and that’s depicted with the BC kingdom tracks, and I interpret do you wanna be alive as you see how that life and the people who come with that can be superficial and I think the lyrics and the tone in which they’re said reflect that character and you start to question if you even wanna be alive, then you get sent back out and I interpret the songs with Evita Manji and the songs that surround tell a story of falling in love and your time with this love, and then the ending tracks shows your assimilation from your physical form and you leave your world and your love for become one with space and you yourself become an entity without form and boundaries in space. And I like to think this tells Sophie’s story.

"Guess I'm in the air, you can smell me like Vicks" can also have a double meaning in that she's saying she's sick, as in she's cool. She's so sick she needs her vapor rub 😂

i like to think that this album is Sophie's ghost. And she made this from a higher dimension, dimension where there is no concept of time. So she was able to do this even after her passing here in 3D 🧬💜

loved your energy, as well as your vocal additions! glad you enjoyed the album, i was apprehensive at first when the singles came out, not sure about the mixing/mastering (and i still think the rollout was bizarre at times), but when i heard the album as a whole i just fell in love with it.

one thing that I also admire is that SOPHIE actually created every single sound from basic sound waves and no samples from other instruments. She created her own instruments from the scratch, and this record just shows how versatile she is, playing with many different genres. Definitely one of the most genius and talented artists ever.

The only sampled thing in this album we’re actually the dog barks in the beginning. Other than that though your right, nothing is sampled

I love “reason why” because it highlights one of my fav Sophie techniques…using a very clicky bass stab as a percussive element. It adds a tastefully minimal & sleek feel to her tracks

to give you some perspective, this album is not just a compilation of songs that were close to being finished that her family and friends picked, it was close to being finished as a body of work with the tracklist locked in while sophie was still alive and she was working on it with her brother, who later decided to finish it by himself after her passing. apparently sophie described it as a record in 4 chapters as you have also noticed. it's interesting context to have when observing the discourse around this album. as you have read, in an interview benny said there are hundreds of unheard sophie songs, but this is being released because he knew that's what she wanted to release. however, lots of fans were originally disappointed that the album wasn't basically a compilation of fan favorite unreleased songs and bootleg albums that have been floating around on the internet even before her passing. one of those songs was reason why which was the first single and as you said, lots of people were originally disappointed because the song sounded different than the bootleg version which had a harder hitting bass in the mix, however that was probably mostly because of the low quality of the bootlegged file. it's been pretty sad seeing negative reception to this album with a lot of, in my opinion, a bit shallow comments in the style of 'this is not like sophie', 'this is tarnishing her legacy' etc. there was a false expectation set that this album would have to be an experimental masterpiece that would cement her place as one of the best electronic producers in recent history, however it was supposed to be a comforting club album based on yearlong friendships and times spent together with friends partying and talking, which explains why this album feels more like a live set at times. benny has also said that sophie was really into the idea of releasing an experimental record then a pop record and then experimental again etc., so this was supposed to be a pop addition in the cycle. with all that said, sophie's vision didn't translate well for many within the context of her passing and it being her last album. a lot of people didn't give it a chance and fell into a very contradictory sentiment of it not being sophie's vision and demanding her other songs finished and released, when that's the thing that would actually be against her vision.

thank you so much for saying this!! a lot of people are so uneducated on the situation around this album and are being so disrespectful just because their favorite niche demo wasn’t on the tracklist. i love this album so much and i just know that sophie would be so proud of her brother and friends for finishing it so beautifully and with so much care🙌🏻

I am really struggling to connect with this album! I can appreciate the effort that went into it, but it just doesn’t have that spark that SOPHIE’s previous work had. Maybe I will come round to it over time, but something about it just doesn’t sit right with me.
@purrrevil3 күн бұрын
Same with me. Love SOPHIE so much but a lot of this album feels like half ideas to me and really repetitive. For example, I cannot help but compare Berlin Nightmare to MSMSMSM which has the same repetition but goes through so many more textures.
@anakin81323 күн бұрын
thats kind of the point. its a posthumous album, so youre meant to feel her absence. the thing that doesnt sit right with you, is death. in that sense its a perfect posthumous album.
@garnet49903 күн бұрын
also the album was already conceptualized to be quite the opposite of Oil of Every Pearl’s, so it was supposed to be more pop and etc.
@purrrevil2 күн бұрын
@@anakin8132 id agree with this but according to her family, this is 90% of the album she wanted to put out. I mean, sophie isn't here, so whether or not this is truly the album she wanted to put out we will never know.
