Was not 25 inches. Nice stocky you bought. Totally lame fisherman too, way to suffocate a big brown and act like nothing happened. Why show your false casts over and over and they where really false too. As in you looked like you already hooked it, that cast is trash, “little hairs ear” fucking Canadians

I don't know what this creek/river is like but I'd guess when water was high he moved down below that culvert pipe and now can't get back into deeper water. Hopefully he'll move up or down with bigger runoff...

Great job netting that fat Brown without hurting him. And handling & releasing him gently so y’all can catch him again! The Small streams are my favorite for Big trout here in N.C. PA too. And always let those breeders live on. Tnx for sharing man!

I fish a local small creek and regularly catch rainbow that run around 12" with my 3 weight rod. They feel large on that setup, I can only imagine catching a 25" trout! That would be a blast.

I routinely use my 3-wt in winter/spring with a nymph indicator rig and does fine. Obviously, I avoid false casting as much as possible and I use a wool/NZ indicator to offset weight and provide a nice soft presentation in small streams. Get em'!

Love my 3wt. Gets a lot of use on the CDA River here in Idaho

I'm looking to get a 3wt, but I'm not sure what length rod would be best for small brooks like the one in this video. Any advice would be appreciated.
@aaronhellhake5320
@aaronhellhake5320 6 жыл бұрын
The 3wt I use on the CDA River is much bigger than this one unless its summer time then parts of it looks like this one in the video. My rod is a 7'6" one that I made using scientific angler blanks. I can still throw plenty far to reach using my dry flies. Using light tippet and #24 drys is fun. I can throw smaller tied streamers ok with it and nymph rigs with a dropper but that isn't as easy. The 3wt is a great rod. I used to help out with a guiding outfit years ago and I always kept it in the boat. Some of the other guides except one would point fingers at me but at the end of the day it produced greatness in high pressured areas. The typical westslope cutthroat trout average around 13" here with nice rainbows and white fish in the CDA. I have found with the lighter rod and being shorter with smaller flies it is more enjoyable and requires more finess but twice as rewarding.
@Ispike73
@Ispike73 6 жыл бұрын
Is 7'6" the shortest you would go? I was actually looking at a 7'er as the 5wt/9' rod I have now is frustrating to use in the tight spots. I'm kind of a newbie, I haven't picked up a fly rod in at least 20 years. I'm primarily interested in fishing the small mountain brooks where I live (the Adirondacks) as opposed to the bigger rivers.
@aaronhellhake5320
@aaronhellhake5320 6 жыл бұрын
For your location I think a 7 would be fine. Winston makes a 6 and a halfer that I have used and it was great on some of the smaller creeks around here. I think any less than that would yield to a 2wt. Orvis used to make a 6ft 2wt, not sure if they do anymore, but that one would be rewarding on small creeks.

I posted this question on Reddit, and Cabela's has a line of glass ultralights that a lot of people seem to love. It's their CGR line, they have a 2wt/6'3, a 3wt/5'-9, a 4wt/6'6, and a couple bigger ones. The 2wt seems to be very popular, I think I might go with that one.
