I apologize for all of the questions but your story is so interesting to me since people seem to rarely leave a higher paying tech job to do social work. I still have my reservations about getting my masters in mental health counseling. So I am curious, do you so far enjoy this new profession? what challenges do you come across? What demographic do you work with? I also wonder, is everyday emotionally taxing ? Do you ever have fun or enjoy the work? Does the work energize you? If these questions are not fit for a video please let me know if I can reach out directly to you. I have been talking to a wide variety of therapists to help me make an informed decision. I am curious to hear more about yours

I would love to see more on Gestalt theory/therapy. I'm in my last year of grad school for MHC and I'm having trouble choosing a "guiding theory". During our first semester in our theory class, we were asked to fill out an assessment to see which theory we aligned with and mine was Gestalt, but I instead choose CBT because it is "evidence-based" and accepted by insurance (and coming from a medical background I know how picky insurance companies can be). I am now finding that I do not resonate fully with CBT, and I am trying to find the theory that I "click" with! Thank you for this super helpful video!!

Hi! I'm also interested in going the LPCC/LMFT route. Do you know any grads who work in the hospital systems? I'm already in the healthcare industry and I see some make low six figures in some of the big healthcare systems in the bay. Are there any people in your cohort thinking of this route?
@techtotherapy29 күн бұрын
Thanks for your question! Hmm I actually don't know of anyone close to me that is going that route, but I believe there were a couple people in my cohort that did that! The good thing if you go this route is you won't have to worry about finding clients, there will probably be plenty of people needing care
@fitmom0609Ай бұрын
Am I the only one who thinks $52K is a good salary for only seeing 15 clients a week? I'm assuming that the clients are only coming 1x per week. If you see 30 clients, you can double that salary. IMO, 30 clients per week would be doable. Am I just deluding myself to make me feel better about the student loans that I'm about to have to pay back? 😬 I will edit to add that I'm from a southern state and that PLPC's usually charge less than what is listed here, but the cost of living is lower than CA.

I’m having a bad mixed race day, so came across your channel. Very helpful. I’m not acquainted with the literature, but it seems like you’re a pioneer of authentic mixed race research, not mixed race through a homogenous lens, or even binocular lens - which as you imply is still a form of mono-ethic colonization.
@techtotherapyАй бұрын
Wow thanks for such a nice comment 💕
@JohnSmith-bm6zg2 ай бұрын
If you’re mixed race then don’t live in Asian countries, especially China. The discrimination and micro aggressions over there are unbearable. What hurts most is seeing white people and black people in asian countries being treated quite well (despite their complaints), but I get treated like an actual criminal; guilty until proven innocent, but never accepted. I have also experienced on multiple occasions complete strangers come up to me in the street and tell me I’m ugly. White people don’t believe when I tell them. What also hurts is westerners not accepting me abroad because they consider me local, and even though they profess to be more open minded, reality proves otherwise. Like a stray dog wandering from group to group. There is also a lot of strangers smirking ridiculing etc. for absolutely no reason. But again I have watched how they treat monoethnic people completely different. By contrast, I do get some women who are very interested, but I daren’t take them outside lest the date is quickly ruined by discrimination from strangers imposing themselves into my private affairs. It’s like the Truman Show but nobody believes you. My own theory is that people subconsciously choose who to trust based on how similar they look to themselves, like animals skeptical of other species. If you judge people by their actions not their words, it seems that racism is the rule, not the exception to it. It took me until middle age to work this out, since I was never racist myself. Despite everything I would rather be enlightened than live in the perpetual child like ignorance and security of mono-ethnic cultishness.
