Awesome I worked with Gig in the late 1950's and early '60's not much seems to have changed - I still have some of my early engines - brilliant

Im planning on making my own balsa wood plane, likely based on the Fokker E.3 because of its simple design, and this gave me alot of insight on construction, types of components etc.

Do you recommend wrapping the whole wing in one go? Or doing it tin smaller sections?

I have just pretty well finished the assembly of each part and am almost ready to put everything together. If anyone is actually going to build this model it would be a good idea to look through the plans several times and read the booklet first before starting. Also look at Rob Brennan RC's channel - he covers the build pretty comprehensively but there are gaps ! I found references to a few parts in the booklet which I couldn't find on the plan though they are not fundamental to finishing the build. The plans in the kit are confusing in places and the aileron hinge lines are drawn on the plan in thin air for both wings ! if you are expecting engineering standard drawings you will be disappointed.

As a kid, all the kits I built were die-cut. More accurately, they were die-crunched. Laser cutting has brought a level of precision we could only dream of back then. Fitment and precision are 50X better with today's kits, not to mention the ease of removing parts from the sheets. I just wish they could figure out how to cut without leaving char!

I was surprised to find glue in my Impala kit, but why so little? It's nowhere near enough.

am i the only one who hates the burnt edges of laser cut balsa? sure it is better than any die cut, but i don’t want a brown frame on any of my models. oh well… sanding block at the ready.

i used to build models like that back in the early 60's some for flying and some for static display. they were mostly rubber band powered but always came out to be too heavy probably from too much glue and dope so i would turn them into gas powered with some cox glowplug motors flying them with ucontrol lines or freeflight. it was kinda before r/c was available for kids to have. i enjoyed watching,thnx.

Now try to cut out the templates, transfer them to balsa sheets, and cut them out, sorry im totally old school. I've been building models for over 50 years. Its the most amazing relaxing hobby ever.

I had a paw 049 on my 2 channel rookie glider when I was 14 fast forward 30 years and my Daughter getting into rc flying I took her to the child hood memories of free flights and went daft , we have lots of free flights aswel now and mostly powered by PAW 049 we have 12 of these now different coloured heads etc love them

I found that it is difficult to buy the RC components and motor. It is cheaper when you order a whole ready-made RC plane. They are on Amazon starting at 35 dollars. To order the parts separately can be troublesome and it is even more expensive.

Nice work. Suggestion: use a 2ft by 4ft drop ceiling tile instead of cutting your plans down to fit the cork board. The pins will actually go deeper into that tile and will hold stronger.
@we-are-electric14455 ай бұрын
A bit rushed to help a novice in my view. No advice as to the best paper to put over the plans to stop the balsa wood sticking to it. Not showing the covering of the frame is a major omission. Why ?
