It amazing how how much we have lost our smarts. Stuff made better in olden days.

This is caused by cutting the fuel back to the point it fires but not enough to make a complete revolution over TDC. Basically its at idle but the gear box is still engaged.

Hi David. I just watched your video from 2019 while looking for info on replacing headlights on my ’76. Looks pretty straight away. One headlight’s low beam is out but I am thinking I’ll change them both out to H4’s. Has anything changed much since you posted your video five plus years ago? Looks like I have lots of choices for a pair of H4’s. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Howdy! Yeah, can't go wrong with H4s. Bosch or hella is the way to go in my opinion

It is indeed a block heater!

I love how even though the front wheels are off the ground the drivers instinct is to still turn them to straighten up

drain the oil and throw some a couple of gallon of vinegar down the old engine you may be able to salvage it and then strip it down if it doesnt turn over .If you can get it running its worth going to that trouble if its the original engine take out the sp[rk plus and put vinegar down the bores and leave it in there for a week and see if it will move and then just strip it down

Make sure that the clamps that hold the gearchange mechanism are all tight. Any play here will lead to a really vague gearchange, magnified by the "pudding stirrer" gear lever. Also when bleeding the brakes, adjust the brake shoes so they are in contact with the drums, then bleed. Once bled, back off the adjusters a fraction to achieve running clearance.

UK here, my first car was a mini 850, swapped that lump out for an 1100, makes a massive difference, keep an eye out for one.

There's a '62 Woody project for sale in Lake Oswego, OR as I write this- $5,800. Decent metal, complete with engine, trans, interior. I want it so bad.

Love these vids you make where you repair rather than restore. Have had plenty of Mini's but sold the -65 Austin Countryman as roof over my head somehow seamed more important 😅

Love that you are preserving the originality of this Mini! Looking forward to future videos. I’m still running an 850 in my mk1 Countryman, but thinking about using a Cooper 998 head eventually to get a little more power.

Thanks for your great Bimmer-vids David! My 74 tii (Turkish beauty) was rusty, and despite expensive efforts to remove & repair it, it persisted. I was lucky to find an exceptionally dry rust free ‘74 body into which I moved all my cool tii stuff (front & rear subframes w Bilstiens & bars, 14” alloys (bmw 3series), Recaro seats (e-21), 5 speed, & Nardi (wood steering wheel covered by me w a black leather Wheel-skin”) and of course my rebuilt engine w pump and injectors serviced by Gus at Pacific Fuel Injection. This was 31 years ago, I still own, love and drive “tiimmy” daily as long as it’s dry and not too cold. It still runs & drives beautifully (though I’ve never “driven the shit out of it”), as I recognize that this car IS “Essential equipment” and w 2500 mile oil changes, hope to keep driving it until they take away my keys! Keep the faith my younger brother! 👍
