Can't argue with that, Daren! Complete success by the look of things. Well done in overcoming the initial problems and getting a good flight with your Bouchon 109!

I taped this show off PBS in the early 90s, but I'm having trouble finding a working VCR...should have at least three good ones, but can't find them. Now, I know that the whole thing is on YT! I'm going to sit down and watch the whole thing now. Of course, this scene is my favorite one, the entire reason I remember it so well thirty years later.

I usually test the cg with a low winger invented Daren, it's a bit more accurate that way, that's certainly one way to start a flight, glad you kept your cool 👍
@DazDaMan2 жыл бұрын
Cheers, Cliff! Yeah, I did that several times to try and be sure, but something was definitely off! Second flight was definitely better, but we're now thinking it's not down-thrust or tail weight, but a warp in the stabiliser itself?

Aww, that sucks. I'm guessing you're in the UK then? I was lucky that there was a break in the weather last night so I could go flying - even so, it wasn't planned, as the battery wasn't fully charged! (Although I still managed some 8 minutes flying time!)

Glad you don’t have any of the aileron issues I had. I was not impressed with the Eachine BF 109. Even after the new paint job I gave mine. It’s nice to see what the Eachine BF 109 can do without spinning out of control.

It’s amazing how good these look in the blue, and how well they fly. Congratulations! I’ve almost finished my second Master Series Spitfire - the first was an unqualified success, but eventually succumbed to battle damage. I’ve beefed up the nose of the new one with expanding foam in the cavities, and ditched the weak swappable motor system for a conventional hard firewall.

Hi Darren , First of all great build and flying video of your FT Spitfire speed build kit , I actually loved the non aggressive style of flying even though it was probably early nerves with your new plane . This is the very model I am wanting to build and eventually fly even though I have no experience of the flying bit , I would intend to take my time and go slow at first hopefully together with a fitted gyro might make my flights as smoothe as yours . At present none of the UK stockists seem to have any in so will probably be after Christmas now . By the way that wouldnt be in the Borders region where youre flying ? certainly looks like that with the low hills in the background , Im from the North East . You mentioned in your build video you couldnt get the right sized spinner ? by what I understand either a 2 1/4" or a 2 1/2" spinner is correct for this model , but not sure ? I have been doing a bit research into modifications on FT Kits and have come up with a few of my own reinforcement ideas for the fuselage , tail and vose section without going too far overboard with the weight ! Another thing I would possibly mod is by scrapping the power pod to make it easier to get the right battery down into the nose section to correct the centre of gravity etc etc . Whats your views on this Cheers mate Mike
@DazDaMan2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mike. Thanks for the comments. I think the Spit needed a bit more power, as well as having a few trim issues that I have yet to sort out, but it will definitely get worked on over the winter. Yes, I fly just south of Edinburgh, so lots of space to aviate around in! I got the right size of spinner, but not the right colour (it should be black for that paint scheme). However, I did get one later on, but the red spinner is still on just now! I scrapped the power pod (or, at the very least, cut it right down and glued it into the fuselage), but my Spit still needed about 30g of ballast up front to make it balance out. I'm going to do another one with the motor mounted right at the end of the nose - it might not look as nice but it should balance much better. I've only had a few flights with the FT Spit so far, but I've not had any issues with the strength of it - it's really quite a robust model. But, strengthening the forward fuselage would help, especially around the dowel rods that hold the wings on. So long as you keep it light, it should be OK. I have heard of a guy (on KZbin) who actually uses the FT Spitfire as a TRAINER - it will fly that easily/slowly. Looking forward to see how you get on! Daren

Yeah. This was a good series. I taped it on VHS so I've not seen it in years. Spoilers below ... Here you've got 3 pilots involved in this bridge trick. Moggy sees the bridge - takes a pass at it and pulls up - then comes back and does it. The next guy - just lies about it. He takes a try and decides - "fuck this" - then said he did it when he didn't. The third guy - figures if they can do it - he can do it - but he doesn't realize that the river level has come up since Moggy did it - and when he tries - there isn't enough room and he dies. I don't remember if the river had come up for the 2nd guy or not. .
