Any idea what this engine operated during its working life ?

Extraordinary, when we think of those who worked with these mechanics..... well done and thank you for resurrecting them.

Yabut, what does it actually do? It's just spinning those giant flywheels.

Hello Mr. Faris, This engine is magnificent, only I translate by Google, what is an electric Fairbanks?

My Dad and I restored one like this a 15 hp "N" Fairbanks Morse we obtained from an old gold mine. Retrieving it was a huge job and a labor of love. Why doesn't yours hit 'n miss? We set ours to idle at 90 rpm- it would hit then miss for 24 revolutions.

These engines ran manufacturing plants or generators. Vista , California has an exposition in spring and autumn. They have gas and steam generator engines on display. The gas engine is a hit and miss engine, which sounds like thunder when it hits. The pipe is over 50 feet tall.

Wondering, after everything is sorted out and adjusted, would it be possible for one man to start the engine alone? JIM ❤

Now that the engine is more dialed in its actually not too difficult for one guy to start it. I'll post a start-up video in the future. Thanks for watching!

Yeah but you have to wonder how much torque, it must be insane..... and they would deliver it for decades at a time with minimal upkeep.

where do you get parts for something like this?
@SteveB884 ай бұрын
I would assume if a part failed, you’d have to have something custom-made, probably using the old part as a pattern to create a new one

Think of how much iron ore was mined from the Mesabi range in northern Minnesota to make engines like this. Has to weigh a ton.
