There were a lot of contributing factors to the VGC, from oversaturation of the market, to terrible design flaws, but one of the largest leading contributions (or at least, the biggest scapegoat) was Atari's attempt at capitalizing on the projected popularity of E.T., The Extra Terrestrial...problem is, the guy they gave the project to *didn't* have enough time to properly cobble together a good game concept, a mere 5 weeks to meet the holiday rush. The end result? One of the worst games of all time, with 3.5 out of 4 million units returned to Atari HQ as unsold assets...and a large chunk of carts would also find themselves buried in a landfill in Alamagordo, New Mexico, along with other carts. It was the gaming equivalent of a biblical catastrophe 😂 Then Sega and Nintendo would pull gaming back out of the dust in the US, with the release of the Nintendo Entertainment System Control Deck (with R.O.B. bundled at launch to attempt sweetening the appeal, 'cause kid in the 80's LOVED robots), and the Sega Master System a year later

For me, all the city dlc tracks with the arrows that point different ways are all f tier for me. The amount of times I go into walls because that's where I went the first lap and it has changed. While "Best" is purely subjective, as one person's favorite game will be another's most hated, I would say the best games for the platform - at least, those most well known - are the Panzer Dragoon series, along with NiGHTs Into Dreams. 'course, there's also Virtua Cop 2, Clockwork Knight (And its sequel), and, in a "It's so bad it's good" sense - Street Fighter II: The Movie - The Game

Funny thing is that there's technically been 5 games in the core franchise, with the OG game being on the N64 (Dōbutsu no Mori/Animal Forest) before being retooled and remade for an international release on the Gamecube (Dōbutsu no Mori+/Animal Forest+/Animal Crossing)
