Is it compulsory to attend all the questions in the exam? since there is negative marking for false answer, can I leave question unattended?

informative and interesting presentation thank you..... I would just like to clarify a simple issue.. without using BIM , modular construction cant be facilitated especially in MEP and pre-installed services issues.....one more issue....what about the roof floor???it should have been discussed separately
@IStructEUAERegionalGroup20 күн бұрын
Great comment, although modular construction dates back to the 1800s - no BIM then. Just engineers that could read drawings and visualize in various dimensions

How many marks to pass whole exam and how many marks is needed to pass part 1 and 2 respectivily?
@IStructEUAERegionalGroup6 ай бұрын
Both parts of the question must be satisfactorily answered to achieve a pass You shouldn't focus on a pass mark, more getting the maximum possible. The exam is 7 hours = 420 mins = 100 marks. 4 mins = 1 mark This allows 400 mins plus 20mins to choose the question and check over at the end however the overall pass mark is 40 but again, both part 1 and part 2 must be answered to the satisfaction of the examiner

This is a good shortcut. But the only drawback is it only considers bending deflection. If we are considering vierendeel girders then we should also do shear deflection besides bending since shear stiffness of vierendeel girders are much less than that of diagonal truss.

There was just a brief intro from Declan, 2023 Chair & then the Time Management presentation by John. Unfortunately due to a technical hitch, zoom did not record the session. So we did a video short of the powerpoint. The essence is, make a timetable - stick to it. Keep to facts not fluff Any questions Patrick just reach out to the team on either YT, Linkedin or [email protected]

Thank you that was very informative ... I wanted to ask what to do with a stone wall that has been pebbledashed?
@scienceexperimentsforhomee2615 ай бұрын
just come across this video whilst doing background research on lime etc. It's most likely going to be cement based pebbledash render in which case I would remove it and replace with a lime-wash to whatever colour you want. Internally if you have gypsum plaster I would leave it, but if you have modern emulsion then remove that and replace with a natural paint that will breathe - vapour permeable.

This is a very good session Sama. You did it very comprehensively. IStructE Guide to Conceptual Design of Buildings has rule of thumb initial sizing of members including back of the envelope calculations for transfer structures. For foundations one can use BS 8004 latest edition and also BS8002 for basements.

Surabhi, Thank you - At the begging, Point of contraflexure (Zero moment) cosnidered at mid height of column, Force at top level 150 kN, Floor to Floor Height 5 m, FEM = 150/2x5/2 = 187.5, At Bottom level, Force 150 - 100 = 50 kN, FEM = 50/2*2.5 = 62.5

On reinforcement: There are fdm 3d-printers that automatically cut and place carbon fiber into the printed object. The techniek and software to print and design the objects are already existing. Isn't that the way to go for printing reinforced concrete buildings? I don't mean filament with carbon fiber in it, but cut and placed continuous carbon fiber in the print, like you see here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJqzgqOfepmSp7s
