He'll probably do well. As you noted, from a physical and tactical aspect he's a massive upgrade on Xavi but whether or not it ends up piecing together everyone will have to wait and see.

For me I think tactically it's massive coz Xavi has shown a level of stubbornness and naivety but that comes with the territory so it's not a knock on him coz you gain that experience the more and more you coach. Coz even the league that he won was when he was being flexible. Coz we saw when Xavi first came and he had a very mish mash team he adapted to it and played to the strengths of players like Auba and the wingers at the time. Then in the second iteration he played to the strengths of the midfield and defence and you guys ended up with that crazy defensive record that was basically on par with peak Atléti stats wise. Then now is when Xavi has his pieces but he didn't have an answer to when the defence started leaking goals like crazy coz then he couldn't build on that.

And having said all that, how things play out may be affected by several factors. So I was just separating factual things versus maybe circumstances. Coz you can be a better tactician and still fail due to other factors and vice versa. Same way that a transfer of a player can fail to work out due to a myriad of factors even when it may have made sense on paper.

Madrid was dominating in the whole game against Bayern. Even if the referee mistake had not been made and Bayern scored a 2nd goal, then Madrid would most likely have won it anyway in extended period of time, given that Bayern had already removed their best attackers.

@@TBS-Football I think he still maybe has one more year of coming off the bench in him. Coz the only player who's hinted at leaving so far from those senior players who keep getting one year deals is Nacho. Although if we won the CL it definitely would be a good way for them to bow out. I just reckon he won't shadow drop it on us at least as a fan I would hope he did a Marcelo and told us ahead of time so he got the appropriate farewell tour from the Bernabeu at each home game.

Laporta too busy chasing short term fixes and more palancas 😂. But jokes aside I think Barca will be back soon enough, they just gotta be patient. Coz they keep try a fix things in the short term instead of planning 2-5 years in advance and basically reinforcing the squad with shrewd signings and la masía rather than chasing the short term contracts they keep bringing in and then offloading And to answer the juju thing it's basically a mental state. Coz all our winning teams have been able to pass on this mentality on over and over. People always make the joke about the "spirit of juanito" coz that's the team that basically started it. Eventually it'll end but once it sparks it's hard to stop. Similar to what we are seeing with Leverkusen comebacks rn. Ours has just thankfully survived generations due to that constant passing of the torch. And I think the 21/22 season will be the most important one that passes it on for this current generation the same way that the la décima team sparked everything for the eventual 3 peat team.

It takes a lot to even go back to back that's why we ourselves can't even repeat that coz knockout football the margin of error is so thin. It's a lot easier to go back to back in a league versus a KO competition.

@@TBS-Football True but I think Pep has realized he needs to be flexible coz the way they won it wasn't even the way they normally used to approach the competition. They started being conservative away from home and playing with the back 4 of CBs etc when in years past their offensive full backs would be letting them down etc. This year we knocked em out on pens but best believe those margins are always gonna be thin. Coz such is knockout football.

M8 if you still dont get it, you're like so many different pundits on tv and never will. Games are won scoring more than your opposition. There are no points for style. Football is not gymnastics. There are 2 different moments in every match. Attacking and defending. Both take skill, tactical planning, commitment, etc. Both are equally important to achieve your goals. Like every other Pep team, city defends poorly. He's an adept of Cruyiff philosophy, so you defend denying you adversary the ball. That's why he always chooses a certain type of players, and assembles its teams ina a way that garanties him the far majority of possession. Without the ball you're adversary can't score. But without the ball, City is vulnerable. You play high possession, man mark in the back line, and are usualy permeable to the fast break. As you were again yesterday. And a couple of years ago in Madrid, where you weren't able to hold the lead? Why? Because at that time, facing preasure, you couldn't hold the ball, and your defence showed its vulnerabilities. Ancelotii is italian. Nobody is more able do devise holding game plans than the masters of Catenaccio. They live, shit and breathe defence. And contrary to last year, where wrongly he tried to beat you at your plans playing you're game, this year we just annuled you. City had almost 70% possesion. More thant 30 shots, bla, bla, bla, but how many real chances? Very very few. You're lucky on you're goal on a bad cut by rudiger, and de Bruyne missed a great chance. Not much more. Madrid, because of the sort of players it has upfront, always plays a fast break game preferably. So we are confortable give the ball away and bidding our time. But it creates huge problems for Guardiola, who is not adept of changes mid game, new fomations or game plans. He always sticks to his system. It's enough to win a lot. Especially in England, where everybody plays open, and in Germany, where Bayern at the time didnt have any serious opposition. But against othe european teams... That's where it gets tricky. Owning the ball is a nice stat, but its scoring and not conceding that wins games.

Losing is down to both manager and players. Teams should know their strengths and weakness. City are a highly overrated, their only acceptable performance in UCL is 2023. They should not expect to win penalty shootouts and therefore should not allow games to go there.

*And yeah the average players thing you hit the nail on the head, I think it's coz the team has done well to always pass the torch on during these eras. So there's always a balance between the young players coming in and the old players going out basically passing these comebacks and mythical mentality over and over. I remember Kiyan Sobhani once used the perfect analogy of an old pizza oven. Where you can basically have an old pizza oven from a small restaurant that never gets washed and you get the best pizzas out of it coz you constantly have flavor being passed down even tho it's probably not hygienic but makes the pizza taste better and better somehow versus maybe a better restaurant that always cleans their ovens and has better pizza recipes but lacks that soul of everything being passed down era after era.

Its one thing to contain some one like saka, and its another to stop someone like Bellingham, vini, rodrygo, especially when you have some one like kroos threading passes, thouamaeni guarding the CBs and Valverde running up and down the midfield, the full backs just sound like a bonus at this point, the sheer quality that madrid have means bayern cant even come close, especially when they have to play the return leg at the bernabeau with the roof closed, it would take some tactical master class to stop real, the only match that they can lose is the final, and that only because its played in one leg
