The shiny object is a solar project funded by the Department of Energy -Crescent Dunes. It's meant to harness solar power. It's said to have cost over a billion dollars to taxpayers. So far, no benefit has come from it.

Lots of errors in the narration. Punta de Mita is not visible from the left side of the aircraft when arriving. Highway 200 was shown as a crowded four-lane road just as the aircraft crossed onto the airport land. And the "gated communities" are not in the area described. The area on the left before the airport is El Pitillal, an area where many of the local workers live and not a high income area. Hope you enjoyed your stay.

That is the Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project in Tonopah, Nevada. Built by RocketDyne- and managed by SolarReserve. Filed for bankruptcy and is now ran by ACS, a giant EPC experienced in this field.
