@@tommystrutz the last two times I haw him were ⦿ Lexington, KY June 26, 3015 ⦿ Chattanooga, TN March 27, 2010 I’ve heard so many John Prine folk legends I have no idea are even true but I’d like to keep believing that they are; like In the 1970’s John Prine, James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, and Jimmy Buffet were all roommates in Key West. Please don’t tell me if it’s untrue, just let me die with that knowledge.

I first heard Matt sing this song 50 years ago. I have heard him sing it several times, and every time he sings this song, it's better!!!!

JP was more than a singer-songwriter. He was the Everyman poet laureate, a MarkTwain-level humorist and a bonafide American national treasure. The pandemic robbed us of a few years more of his unvarnished brilliance.

Bruce loved the sound of that 12 string he played for this song. It was a gift from Myles Goodwyn, who gave it to him at a Songwriters Circle. We pestered Bruce for years to have him visit our little Parrsboro town. He was a busy guy. In August 2018 Bruce and Runrig played to a crowd of over 50,000 at Stirling City Park. In May 2019 he played to a crowd of about 100 in Parrsboro. He did not come for the money or the glory. He came for the people of Parrsboro and as a favour to us. Bruce was not feeling well that night but he played his heart out and gave the audience a magical performance. He never left anything in the tank, even on nights when his illness was taking a toll on his health. Many are unaware of his kindness, love of people and respect for his fans. His untimely death was devastating, he was one of a kind and we shall never forget him. - Steve and Kerstin
