Please stop making comments complaining about how there's no commentary. I don't know McDowell County besides the stuff that everyone else outside knows, I grew up in NC. I'd be talking nonsense if i tried to say anything else about it. I just like to drive to different places off the beaten path and pay them a visit, see the local restaurants/shops, etc. Sometimes if there's not good video or documentation of roads on KZbin I'll try to record it.

The mountains definitely have an allure to them. I didn't grow up in them (I grew up in the Piedmont) but I lived in Western NC and East TN for the past three and a half years, Elizabethton and Boone. I had to move to Charlotte temporarily and it feels like I'm serving out a sentence. Can't wait to get back.

He did and sadly he mostly talked about the crushing poverty. This isn't something new for the "patch", they've always struggled.

This place is a perfect example of what globalization has done for America.
@davebryant8050Ай бұрын
No. It's an example of what happened when the continuous miner was invented in the 60's and mechanization took over. Then the 80's came and the coal was too expensive to mine in the deep shallow seams so the mines closed and rather than relocate to where there was work a percentage of the population decided to just stay there and wait on something to return that wasn't coming. It had zero to do with globalization. These towns were built by coal companies and not meant to be permanent.

My son and myself were going across in a dually one time and ran upon the strangest thing. A large convoy of antique farm tractors. Tight squeeze for sure and not something you expect to see out there.

It's not the tree punching that amazes me It's the 4 wheel drive wheelchair he's tooling around the woods in.
