Denis King is one of my icons of the 70s. In addition to writing this classic, he was also on the Radio 4 comedy show ‘Hello Cheeky’ (with Tim Brooke-Taylor, Barry Cryer and John Junkin) as the resident musician, with The Denis King Trio. He even sometimes took part in some of the regular skits, and proved to be quite the comedian himself. I remember him announcing himself once as ‘Hi fans! Denis ‘Why Don’t They Give Him His Own Show’ King here!’, and I used to think, ‘yes, why not indeed!?’. I remember watching BB on Sunday afternoons at my grandparents’ place, and not wanting to leave to go home until I’d heard the entire closing credits, all because of this brilliant piece of music, and the evocative visions of that beautiful creature galloping so gracefully through the meadows and the stream; what a perfect match. Denis was absolutely right here; a piece of music either grabs you or it doesn’t. This one grabbed me, and still has tight hold more than 50 years on. Thank you, Denis! You rock, Mate! And thanks for putting it out here on KZbin, with the visuals, to bring all those great memories back!

@deniskingmusic yeah, I think the notes of the tune are similarly arranged. But you could say that about a lot of pieces I suppose. Fabulous music btw. As others have said in the comments, it brought a tear or two to my eye too. Thank you indeed.

Never had a yearning to own a horse and the series made me feel a bit sad, but I did ride my Raleigh Tomahawk around humming this tune. It’s got so many great parts but for me it’s that key change about a third of the way in that just takes it to another level, that’s the bit where I would try and pull a wheelie and feel all epic

Just to straighten things out, the sketch was originally broadcast on the 5th March 1966, after the advert break - the King Brothers having already sung "Every Time I See You" in the first half. This clip actually loses about the last thirty seconds, as it led directly into Toni Eden singing "Cheek to Cheek".

A brilliant selection of classics, brilliantly played and sung. Big fan of Fred Astaire. Especially enjoyed your rendition of just the way you look tonight. Absolutely love swing time, my favourite musical. Also loved they can’t take that away from me, much more upbeat than the film version. Great video sir.👍

I saw Vince Eager play, Terry Dene, Wee Willie Harris, the Dallas Boys, the Vernon's Girls.....as well as dozens of original Rock n roll and Rockabilly stars from America

The thing is with this piece of music is the beautiful shots of the horse on the title sequence go hand in hand the pacing and the timing couldn’t get anymore perfect You can’t help but listen to the theme without thinking of the sequence in mind and that is a fine testament of a great theme.
