I heard they’re gonna restore Amtrak Pioneer route soon. I hope they go through Wyoming cause it’s fantastic to see out there and I want to take the train through there.

One of my favorite songs but I can’t remember who sings it? I first heard it when I was 8th grade in the 90’s. Can you please tell me who sings it? I wanna say the Heritage singers but I’m not sure.
@844jim9 ай бұрын
This is the Heritage Singers on this version. I don't remember anyone else who sang this number right now.

Attempted to approach the Alpine from the St Elmo side in early winter in 1976, I know stupid right? Driving the road up the canyon towards St Elmo and my wife asked why the road was blue. She freaked when I told her we were driving on several inches of ice from snow melt off the canyon walls. We made it to St Elmo, but couldn't go any further.

Missouri Pacific also ran a train called The Pioneer, up through the early 1960s. I think it was a San Antonio-to-Laredo train.

It would have been helpful for those who don't live out here (ie. flat landers, out of state ppl, etc) to explain about Tennessee Pass, for trains to travel over it, starting point to Leadville, they don't know how rugged it is here. And, the cargo, passengers, etc.

Tennessee Pass There is HOPE!!! Nov. 2019; Colorado Pacific Railroad is offering Union Pacific $10 million for 170 miles of its Tennessee Pass Line, running from Parkdale near the Royal Gorge through the lower Vail Valley to Dotsero. As of Dec 2019 the only west side recent Tennessee Pass rail line traffic is a train that runs to the American Gypsum wallboard manufacturing plant in Gypsum. The east side track above Parkdale over the pass to Dotsero is still owned by the UP. The track operated by Rock and Rail between Parkdale and Cañon City is still owned by the UP, while the track between Pueblo and Cañon City was purchased from the UP. The tourist line Cañon City and Royal Gorge Railroad operates on Rock and Rail (RRRR) short line section between Parkdale and Cañon City the RRRR's track is a subsidiary of Martin Marietta Materials.

August 2018 camped a few nights with friends on the south end of the tunnel. Walked through the tunnel and explored the old track and bed, and surrounding areas. August and it was sub freezing at night. A guy brought his railcar through the tunnel. A wonderful experience. Great to see this historic footage.

I wonder why Amtrak was short of equipment during this time. The Hi Levels had plenty of runtime left and the Superliner II order should have helped a lot to alleviate the shortage. Worst case scenario, they could have kept heritage sleepers and the Hi Levels, using them for routes that wouldn’t have Superliners available. The Viewliners would make the heritage sleepers surplus, so they could easily be used on other routes with Hi Levels.
@AVeryRandomPerson4 жыл бұрын
Because there weren't enough Trans Dorms for all routes and the top of the Hi-Level Transition Cars were coaches instead of sleepers. The Viewliners were going into service at this time, but too many routes existed for too few cars.
