Service dogs our train to perform specific task, for example like checking if something is a hallucination or not. Psychiatric service dogs are not support dogs, their service dogs, just as much as the service dog as guide dogs, medical alert dog, hearing dogs, mobility service dogs, and autism assistance dog. ESA or better known as support dogs do not have the same rights that service dogs do, these dogs are not allowed to go where normal dogs aren’t not go(usually you might see examples of like ESA’s being in medical clinics with their owners, especially those people who have like fears of doctors that’s not uncommon). A lot of people treat specifically psychiatric service dogs a lot less than other types of dogs because a lot of people don’t think or don’t put mental conditions on the same level of disabling as for example, being blind or needing mobility assistance. which which this is not how disabilities work. Best thing you can do if you ever see any type of dog that you have any suspicion might be a service dog or some type of animal just leave them alone, even if you think that they might be “faking it”, unless the dogs being like destructive, leave them alone This has been tips for my service dog handler.
