Great episode! Probably the best one yet! But it is disappointing - as many comments have already pointed out - that nothing was said about Lori McNeil, Zina Garrison (Wimbledon final) and Chanda Rubin - or at least a mention their names. Especially when you talk about how the black female players, like Althea, are forgotten and written out of history 🙁 But I guess there was one fleeting reference to Sloane Stephens!!

Phoppin = 9/10 🤣 Labor Day history = May 1st was the people’s led “Labor Day”, now called May Day. The president at the time didn’t want to align with the May 1st day because he thought it would strengthen the socialist movements. So he moved Labor Day to September.

So glad y'all addressed this. Can't tell us for centuries that our hair and styles are unkempt, unprofessional, or unattractive and then turn around a wear those same styles for it to suddenly be deemed acceptable or worse off "new". It's triggering. Cultural appropriation is real. You can't coopt our joy and ignore our pain.

I get your point Lucy, but you also fumbled your retelling of the story regarding Sinner's positive test. Using words like "injected" when the report did not suggest that, suggests that your own bias is unconsciously rewriting parts of the story.
@blackspinglobal
@blackspinglobal Ай бұрын
I mistakenly said injected which Eugene corrected me right there and there which I acknowledged and that was my bad. Other than that I haven’t said anything that rewrites parts of the history. It was a tough day to record as we had to catch our flight couple moments later to head to the U.S. Open, but will be mindful in the future of course.

@@blackspinglobal totally understand, and to your point you did correct it, but things become very messy when even unintentional misstatements start spreading as fact. There are still people who claim Seren locked herself in a room to avoid a drug test because 1 or 2 people threw that nonsense story into the public Square

Why do you talk about things you don't know without informing yourself? Ymer missed 3 doping tests in 12 months (the rule is clear and simple and it's that you cannot miss 3 tests in 12 months). In the last one he forgot to inform wada of the change of hotel, so it was his fault (with two strikes he would have to do everything he could to avoid the third at least until the day the first strike expired). Sinner failed 2 doping tests but in 8 days (not one in March and the other in September). Whoever had to judge it didn't even know that Sinner was the player involved (only one of the three experts, the one summoned by Sinner himself, knew his identity). And we cannot talk about unequal treatment when comparing cases that are totally different from each other. Let's compare this case instead to the very similar one of Marco Bortolotti (an unknown player with a single best ranking of 355 and now practically only a challenger level doubles player) in October 2023, contaminated with the same substance, in similar quantities, who immediately brought evidence of how he had been contaminated and in fact treated by the ITIA in the same way as Sinner. www.itia.tennis/news/sanctions/no-fault-or-negligence-in-marco-bortolotti-s-doping-case/

And he was not suspended for 27 days (he was injured in that period not disqualified) because he immediately appealed with the data he had and won so the suspension lasted only a couple of days (it lasted just long enough to present the papers to make the appeal) The note was reported now because the protocol provides in these cases that the sentence is announced at the end of everything.

I’ve seen an “ interviews” suggesting Coco Gauff not play the 2024 Open & “not stress abt a victory lap” The naysayers are annoying. I’m glad the Afrikan women that didn’t make singles competition are not completely out of the Open. All are playing doubles! We’re still here, still in it. I take heart that Serena, Venus, & Althea Gibson opened so many doors for us & we are courageously stepping up. Althea Gibson was born (today) August 25, 1927, & was the 1st Afrikan woman to win Wimbledon, win a slam (France 1956) win the french & u.s. slams in 1957 & in 1958, & be voted Female Athlete of the Year in both years by the Associated Press. She won 11 slams incl 6 doubles titles & was inducted into the International Tennis & International Women’s Sports Halls of Fame. She was also the 1st Afrikan competitor on the pro golf tour. (1960) I see all these positives (for Afrikan men & women) & BSG covering all of it & keeping it 💯, & I don’t worry abt the haters. We’re proving what we can do - again. I’ll keep calling out the inequalities & keep enjoying my PPL on the tennis courts & in the media arenas. THANKS AGAIN AFRIKA.
