I've picked up some antique hammers that I would love to clean up like this. Have you posted what kind of bench grinder wheels you use? If not do you suggest any?
@AppalachianAxeworks
@AppalachianAxeworks 20 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching !! You don't need anything fancy we used the cheapest wire wheels we could find on the cheapest 6 inch bench grinders for years . They work perfect . If you need a bench grinder I would suggest yard sales or flea markets I see them for $15-20 all the time , or you can pick up a new 6 inch at harbor freight for a decent price . I usually buy the cheapest 6 in or 8 in wire wheels I can find . I have a bunch of what's under the rust shorts , I also have a few full length tool clean up videos . I have been using an 8 inch grinder from Harbor Freight as my main grinder and I have a 6 inch el cheapo grinder that I use also , my son works with me he has a 8 inch variable speed shop fox grinder for tool clean up . We never use any rust remover chemicals just a waste of time and money to me , I can clean up a hammer head completely in about 5 minutes and I can usually do a full size axe head in less than 10 minutes , by the time you wait for the chemical to work and clean up and everything plus the money it cost . We have tried every rust remover you buy and really none of them do what they claim , so a wire wheel is just a better use of my resources . Hope this helps , if you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask , and again Thanks for watching the channel .

Ordered a pair today. Knipex makes great tools, using good metal, but Boy is this one expensive! $72 Sep '24. A similarly designed Bates is $10, and Bates makes good nippers.

My primary use will be for pulling nails. I recently got a battery-powered 15ga finishing nailer. I like to set it to leave the head proud. If I need to make changes, I can easily pull even a 2.5in. 15ga D-head nail. When I'm through making changes, I carefully tap in the nails so as not to mar the wood. (I build using 1.5x2.5 lumber, which can be securely fastened with optimally placed 2.5in 15ga nails.)

Thanks for watching . Project Farm did a video on End Cutters a couple weeks ago and the Knipex were by far the best out of all of them . I have cut thousands of copper and brass rivets with mine and they are still as sharp as the day I got them . I would suggest watching Project Farms video it was pretty enlightening to me how much better the Knipex were over all the other brands . I was already a big Knipex Fan before watching that video and it really just solidified my opinion about Knipex tools . Thanks again for taking the time to watch our channel , we really appreciate it . Dave AAW

I inherited my great uncle's red hatchet (pretty sure its the late 50-60 one with the smaller Boy Scout Symbol) but I was wondering if you knew what type and color paint they used so that I could restore it fully? Thanks for the video and for any help you can give me.
@AppalachianAxeworks
@AppalachianAxeworks 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching !!! I don't have details of the paint , I have never been able to nail down confirmed info on it . The early version of the Red paint was very sturdy and held up well , the paint on the later version seems to be thinner and not as sturdy . The paint on the yellow version 65-67 was very thin and not as sturdy . My guess would be that the early red paint was high quality dipped and baked and the later version were dipped with a lower quality paint and not baked . Bridgeport changed hands sometime in 1964 and would possibly explain why the paint quality dropped off in 1965 . Thanks again for checking out the channel . Dave AAW
