Wonderful! The time where you needed to upgrade your PC hardware just to gain acceptable frame rates for the screen savers. 😄

Nice. But this method only works for floppies mounted as A: or B:. So for example, with external floppies (like IBM PS/2 mounted as D: plus) it won't work.

hello, is there any way to repeat a previous XEQ function name without having to re-enter the whole name again, surely there must be, for example if i entered XEQ DOW is there a command to get the DOW back without re-typing it... like a history?

I am not sure if there is a repeat function. But you could use the User mode to more quickly call the function (kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJayf5aJZ89gnc0si=4j1P0InnrOvqvCiN)

The DM41x still shows „24/12/2023“, but does not mean an impossible date, but has a format error bug, not fixed right now.

I don’t get what you wanted to achieve, so you wanted the keys to be registering with the slightest touch?
@alternatereality
@alternatereality 9 ай бұрын
the problem is, there is presure point and a click when you press the keys. then you expect the key to be registered. its problematic, if you press the keys to the bottom and they are not reliably detected. in use you normally do not visually confirm it, you would need to be very cateful to double check every key entry. anway, later models do bot have the issue. detecting key press is number one and most important requirement for a calculator

awww, back when defragmenters worked... now-a-days you gotta end-process-tree every process in task manager (explorer.exe last), then go file-run dfrag.exe by itself so it can actually defragment the files that are normally open and running all the time...

I still remember when I saw my dad running that for the first time, it was mesmerizing. Then, when Microsoft copied/licensed it, they made the progress left to right first instead of top to bottom first. And some years later I learned that this is a crutch for a filesystem that doesn't manage fragmentation.

I'm curious how this works? I have a (much later lol) Aptiva that supposed to have boot system like this (supposed to be dos, os/2, and windows 3.1 or 95. I have every ounce of the install media but previous owner took the old drive so I have no idea how it's supposed to be partitioned lol. Google is no help
@alternatereality
@alternatereality Жыл бұрын
In this system only OS/2 is installed. I will later explore, how to install it fresh, and likely, how to install dos, and OS/2 in parallel. I guess for those with experience it’s all easy, but nowadays little info can be found in KZbin etc. on the „old basics“.

@@alternatereality i can't wait to see it. I tried installing os2 warp and it seems fine but it keeps asking for stuff that's in the windows install partition but when I try to partition it and install it it locks up lol.

I still have the box on shelf... It feels so odd that tou had such a "tool" to improve your PC at the time... Just look at it! Defragment looked so cool!

@mikeeland5177
@mikeeland5177 Жыл бұрын
No, it's not. But similar to E-Ink, the LCD display is able to hold an image for a long period of time when powered down. The DM41X manual touches on this.
@alternatereality
@alternatereality Жыл бұрын
Its called "transflective memory LCD display", I think it needs very low energy and can thus stay on without draining the battery.

I wonder which people need their scientific calculator to have a stopwatch feature. Rally copilots? Airplane pilots? I don't know, but it's a curious feature indeed.

Physics teacher and a billion other professionals. Another application: Measure runtimes of 41X programs (as there is no direct way to get the tics from the cpu). Even though it's true that for most applications one could use a smart phone app instead. Anyways, the Hp-41CX is legend, so the DM41X is a must have electronic gadget for 41X enthusiasts. I mean, why do people drive vintage cars when modern cars are so much better? ;-)
