Hey Carly, great preview. Looks like one I'll definitely be picking up. I've been on the hunt for a better way to store my games and I know everyone typically uses Kallax cubes, but I'd much rather do something more like you have going on in your video. Could you tell me where you got your shelves from?

I love the AllPlay formula of easy to learn, easy to teach, simple and fun to play, with a decent amount of choices and strategy. No one does that combination better!

This sounds like it's right up my alley, too. I'm realizing that tile-laying is one of my favorite mechanics; it's in so many of my favorite games.

All Play needs to change the name of this game to 'Waddle Waddle'. I think that's better then just 'Waddle'. It sounds cuter.

Hi Carly. I know this isn't about this game, but I just wanted to say that I just got back from Tantrum House Con. It was AWESOME! I got to play some games that were new to me, and I got to meet the Tantrum House crew, which was a highlight for me. This was my first gaming convention. The whole atmosphere was friendly and relaxed. There were lots of families with children. Everyone looked like they were having a great time.

Penguins? SOLD!

I'm in a game of Twinkle Twinkle on BGA and it's fun. I suspect it's even better in person with the actual tiles to touch. :)

My daughter is obsessed with penguins and this seems like an easier/fast game, so I’m definitely doing the all in pledge as I really want the other two gamesn

Hi Carly, nice preview, as always. Are the scoring cards different for each player, or do all players have the same as each other with the options on each side? If the same, how is the replayability? What is the point of the clear tiles if the area beneath them have no game effect?

Fantastic preview of this and Waddle! Just what I was looking for after getting the email from KS that these launched. For now I'm just going to back the Twinkle Twinkle bundle. We're 2p only and I think Waddle might be a wait for retail and see then. But Twinkle Twinkle looks great for all player counts and I'd definitely want the extras and upgrades. Glad they have a special bundle just for Twinkle Twinkle.

Personally I feel if the trilogy of games centred on the real world,,, say the sky (wingspan),,, the land (land based animals),,, and the sea (fish) stonemieir games I feel would not be getting the negative reaction it is getting. It’s the factual grounding and broadening of people’s knowledge of birds-the value of gamifying education, is what I feel made and is making it an ever green product. The negative reactions generated will damage any continued success of the other two products IMO.

Really nice overview of these three games. I would disagree, however, with your assumption that more "gamers" prefer Wyrmspan over Wingspan. Almost everyone from our local group (mostly heavier euro-players) prefer Wingspan. It is just a tighter design. Wyrmspan just feels a bit unwieldy at times, especially in the end game. Meanwhile everything about Wingspan just feels so elegant and well designed. I have also seen at least one quite prominent reviewer (maybe more) who has declared Wingspan to be the superior design. And for reference about me, Wingspan is by far the lightest game that I continue to play regularly.

The arts work is awesome but i dont like this board game. When play, everybody need to read the card everytime

I'm certain Finspan will sell the worst out of all of them, but I'm pretty sure Stonemaier knows it. I personally like it, and at the VERY least, it's something new to look at if you solo play a lot of Wingspan.

This was super helpful! I’ve only played Wyrmspan. And really enjoy it. This sounds like a good one for us to play with our not as gamer kiddos/friends. So thank you for sharing your thoughts

Nice. Prob exactly what I've been looking for. A 3 way comparison which I will watch later. I've skipped Wyrmspan for now because of a preference towards nature and history themed games. But I love all the unique dragon art, so I may eventually pic it up before it goes out of print. There is that acronym STEM. It should be STEAM. With the A being Art. The art of fantasy allows us to imagine various windows to see the world through. We want to raise children, not actual robots. Haha. Finspan is def on my to buy list. Maybe, prob Wyrm now, too. SM games said they're doing just these three of a group. But I'm still wishing they'd do an insect version. With the plethora of insects in the natural world, such a game could be very educational, just from the aspect of exposing us to them. One option, and I know a lot of people seem to be allergic to it, could be adding more interaction including "take that" to such an insect version, given that many insects do nasty things. But, not necessarily. It could be themed as studying insects and Not include such, as well.

Flip 7 looks fun, Combo is cute and makes me want to drink a smoothie, but Curses and Covens is the clear winner for me. Those Cards are so beautiful! Beck's little head bobbing around is also precious. Thanks for the awesome review:)

Plus Wingspan has secret objective cards! - I always like having those in games. I really like both Wingspan and Wyrmspan.

I heard the player boards fold in a different direction in Finspan because some new Wingspan players got confused and didn’t realize that the big brown pieces of cardboard were the player boards. Folding them the other direction in Finspan makes this more obvious.

💯 totally agree about the value of Finspan as a more friendly version of Wingspan AND your assessment of the crunchiness of Wyrmspan -- Wyrmspan is just so good.... but I'd always rather play Wingspan Excited to play Finspan with some friends who are really into marine life and find Wingspan a little intimidating in terms of how many things you need to track love how gently you redirect Beckham from smacking the mic 😂

I would’t be surprised to learn that the player boards were supposed to fold the other way so that the pretty design was on the outside like it’s the case for Wingspan and Wyrmspan. Potentially some production issue that will be fixed in upcoming prints.

I haven't gotten a chance to try Wyrmspan, but I think the theme would prevent it from crossing Wingspan for me. Just don't really care about dragons or having "facts" about different species. I don't mind it exists, but would probably pick up Finspan before just due to theme. Also, those mats are huge and the would totally be an annoyance to not sit directly across from players!

Thank you for this great comparison video. You did an amazing job introducing the three and touched on many of my thoughts on the subject. I also loved how you let your (sweet) son be part of the video and how calmly you handled everything. It looks like your kids are lucky to have you as their mother.

Since I have the Nesting Box for Wingspan and spent the time to deluxify it I’m sticking with Wingspan only for now and maybe at some point I will get the other two when my gamer friends who have Wyrmspan and will have Finspan move away or something like that. :)

i have wingspan with expansions and i like the game,I played just recently wyrmspan, and i don't know yet if i like it more or the same then wingspan, i think jut a bit more, and then i hear about finspan, and i think what? another one, thanks for comparisation I don't think i'm up for this one, look's nothing for me maybe because it is easyer and the board are verticaly so big, that is not easy. wyrmspan is on my wishlist. but don't think i'm gonna buy finspan.

I really enjoyed this video. This is the best comparison that I've seen of the three 'span games. You walked through the mechanics of each game concisely. This is one of the best (if not the best) of the videos outlining Finspan. I'm definitely going to be following you to watch future videos. On top of everything I've said, you are an AMAZING multitasker and I loved that your child was in the video. As a parent myself, I understand that life doesn't stop when are kids are around, and sometimes we have to adapt to support them. You were both mother and KZbinr and did them flawlessly. Thanks for being such a great example. And lastly - YES about the transparent cards! Yes, yes, yes! Jamey could just take my money so easily if only he'd do it! ;)

My first impression is the cover art. Not a fan of the fish they chose. Why not add that vibrant color like the other two by adding a tropical fish? It would be far more inviting. I also like how Wingspan got a little more complex with Wyrmspan. Why not make Finspan even more complex? It feels like this one is the lightest of the 3. Lastly, the components feel cheap and rushed. I’m sure it makes sense and was play tested a ton, but the components of the first two games looks so good but the last one feels cheap.

Love this video, very nice done. You are NOT the "odd one" though. I also love Wingspan (in my top 10) and don't care about Wyrmspan at all. When it comes to your little nit-pick of inside-out vs outside-in player boards -- I don't care on this so much as you. BUT my big problem is that wyrms don't exist, and I wish SM would have made a trilogy about real animals. So, WORMS would have been better (or even barnacles - Darwin's study before "Species") or mammals or insects or really anything else living or extinct.
