What type of wood were you using? Thanks❣️
@tinyhomelivinginalberta345128 күн бұрын
Mostly dead standing poplar and spruce. We are pretty limited in Alberta. We make sure it is dead and very dry. We lived in Ontario for a few years and sure loved the maple and oak. If anything seems a bit heavy, we sort it and stack to be used next year. We go ahead and split it, which helps it to dry out.

I really felt for you watching these two videos, the amount of creosote buildup that you had to clean and all that smoke damage to your surfaces. I’ve learned a lot. Thank you for sharing this. To think the company could have saved you a great deal of worry if they had given better instructions! It’s a very pretty stove, hope you’ve had no more problems.
@tinyhomelivinginalberta34519 ай бұрын
It seems to be working well again but the smoke damage is terrible. We are just in the process of finishing up the tile in the shower and it is really bad in the bathroom too. Once we turn the water on in there, it is going to be a ton of work washing every surface. The tiles behind the wood stove are extremely dirty too. I will be so glad to get it all clean!

@tinyhomelivinginalberta345110 ай бұрын
I was a total newby 3 years ago too. This tub will come in handy for bumblefoot too. We had to do our first bumblefoot surgery this past summer and I was trying to hold the chicken for more than 20 minutes in water to soak the foot. The longer it soaks the better. This will make it so much easier next time.

I'm so glad it was of help to you. I did a search for videos, thinking I can't be the only one! I have cleaned it out using the little access under the oven twice already since the video so keep on top of it. In the spring or if the flue lever gets stiff again, we will remove the top again and do another deep clean. I love the stove and it functions great but the dealer sure is of no use.

What is the cost of buying tiny house and the land?
@tinyhomelivinginalberta345110 ай бұрын
We built the tiny house ourselves and the cost, just for material to build the tiny house was about $115,000. We are selling it. The land was $42,000 and the well was already on it. Impossible to find a deal like that anymore, even without a well. Our neighbours sold their 5 acres around the corner 2 years ago for 98k in 2 days and there was no well. Our solar system was about 16k and the 20 foot shipping container to house the batteries, system, well pump and pressure tank was 4k.

We've been burning some dead standing trees and there's tons of sap. I can just imagine what our chimney will look like in spring. What kind of wood do you burn? Spruce is bad as you know I'm sure. Learn about coppicing, depending on your zone you'd be surprised what you can grow, and coppice it for firewood. Coppicing/pollarding also extends the life of the tree. You can coppice birch. I would look for a different designed stove and sell that one. At least you could take the top off.
@tinyhomelivinginalberta345110 ай бұрын
The dead fall in our tree line is poplar and the standing dead at our neighbours is mostly pine but no sap in this stuff. We are hoping to go get some birch cut but haven't had time. Never heard of coppicing. Will have to look that up. Can't switch out stoves. Too much other stuff going on. It was actually easy to take the top off. The most frustrating part was no help from the dealer and absolutely nothing in the manual. I sure know now though! And it is working great again.

I checked your videos and saw that your videos have no tag setup and your titles are not complete SEO. And i Card, 'end card, description, these are not complete SEO. You see, your SEO score is zero. The main reason the video goes viral is video SEO. High ranking keyword, and organic promotion of your video's targeted audience. Your SEO score is absolutely Low and the video has no high-ranking keywords. All you have to do is get views and subscribers

Okay now that I have seen part 2 I see you had the same problem we did. We had bad build up like that as well. After messing with our Obadiah and chatting on the phone with Heco. They told me I needed a hotter fire to keep the build up from forming so fast. I am not a fan of heat so We always kept it burning low. Bad thing to due. Now we keep it cranked unless it is at night then we bank it down. So far it has helped with build up. Good luck and keep us informed as to how it goes over the next year or so. Enjoying your videos.
@tinyhomelivinginalberta345111 ай бұрын
I was actually thinking I keep it too hot but at least I know now. I did a video last year. Got it up to 550 in the oven to make pizza. At least I know now. Manual had no schematics showing inside the stove. Sure glad we took the top off! Had to get help to do it because it is so heavy.
@curmudgeinnak11 ай бұрын
@@tinyhomelivinginalberta3451 Yeah Our Obadiah 2000 did not come with very good directions. When baking, bank the stove down to gain the right temps as well as tinker with the air intakes. I cooked on a old elmira when I was a kid. When we moved to our remote homestead in Alaska and purchased the Obadiah it took me a few weeks to get back into the swing of things. As soon as I finish baking I will leave the lever closed for the oven and let it get good and hot. Then I close that part down so the oven cools and the flu is run in the normal burning mode. I still keep it burning pretty hot. Since I started doing that I have a lot less build up. I was thinking old school from my childhood. Burn low and slow to save wood. I would rather cut more wood than deal with the flu every few weeks. Does your stove have a designated gate or valve to direct the heat around the oven?
@tinyhomelivinginalberta345111 ай бұрын
@@curmudgeinnak yes, I was practicing with it last year. Did some baking and canning with it. Got the temps I needed. I didn't find it that difficult but we have owned wood stoves for 25 years. There were no drawings or instructions of any kind except a little box that said to close the vents etc. I have not had much of a chance to play with it this winter other than to light a fire and come back occasionally to add wood. Hopefully will be getting around to that soon. Been a crazy month with Chris being diagnosed as asthmatic but turned out he was in heart failure. Another video to update folks on that.
@curmudgeinnak11 ай бұрын
We have a Obadiah 2000 by Heco. We have that issue from time to time. Almost sounds like the air intakes are clogged
@curmudgeinnak11 ай бұрын
It can also be caused by negative pressure in the building. Have you tried with a window open? Does it have a air intake on the back side? Is that to close to the wall if it does?
@tinyhomelivinginalberta345111 ай бұрын
I was thinking that because the tiny house is so airtight but this didn't happen last season. Thanks for the input.

We are cringing through your painful voyage of cook stove discovery. "Been there, done that" were my wife's words..... Whilst our stoves may be decades apart, the principals are very similar so perhaps our video "Cleaning The Sultan" might have helped ease the misery! Sounds like you've figured it out regardless. Good luck.
@tinyhomelivinginalberta345111 ай бұрын
Yes, maybe. I was shocked when I went to youtube looking for some videos that might help with this particular stove. The dealer that sold it to us was not the least bit interested un helping. 'Did you check the pipe' was it! So there is certainly a need for a video about this one. I will look for yours too when I think of it.
