I hated my one just too limited like a angry TD3 that i will never sell i sold the Crave as it's a mono synth and could never remember the settings that sounded ok only a few good sounds and the switches are confusing and not worth learning because the limited saving of settings

Thanks for the video! : ) I want to start with Behringer's synths and I was wondering which one to get first ... May be the Crave ? : ) I want to create music and jams without external keyboard .... just twisting knobs and rhythm and sound. : ) Which synth would you recommend to get first?

I’ve had my Crave for 3 years at the time of making this comment. You might have evolved in your synth skills by this time, I know I did in the space of 3 years. First, I cried over the single oscillator, and “few effects”. Now, I’m best friends with the LFO, and I’ve learned to make small changes so you have a key pulse, and a sub flow of movement generating via the LFO, or ENV, or patching so you mix two things into affecting one other thing. And then dial the effect to be something really subtle. When I found that world, 1 oscillator is plenty, and I don’t need reverb or delay. Personally I love the Crave. At some point I might want a Moog, I do find that tone fuller, richer than the Crave, but the Crave is so portable and I can speak for it being very very durable, it’s been sharing bags with drums and cymbals for me and works perfectly well.

I keep Crave just coz it was dirt cheap and there's no point in selling it... i mean you can sell it for like a hundred at best now. All the points you've made are true tho, very good observations.

Thanks for your video. I get it that you took the risk of criticising a synth as being a beginner and people might react harshly. I have only 2 years experience with a bit of Korg Volcas, Elektron Model cycles and Roland Aira compact so I can tell you I get your point. I also thank all the commenters for bringing valid objections because I just bought a crave for almost nothing (90eur) and I couldn’t believe how many were for sale. I canceled my Volca bass order and started using this wonderful baby instead because the sound is more what I was looking for: deep and rich. I realize how much I don’t know about it and people here in the comments have brought fair amount of info to dig into so thank you all and each to their own when it comes to buy/ sell/ try stuff. We all have different interests at different times of our life 🎉

I automatically stop watching synth reviews when the complain no FX! If you don’t have external FX your not a serious musician and the last thing they should ever say is it’s not professional feeling. The Crave is an excellent synth. You just don’t know how to use it.

Having only one oscillator, surprisingly, can be a benefit when using it for bass. With two oscillators, they can start out of phase and your attack is weakened. That’s why a lot of synths have three, but having just one is an alternative at the cheaper end of the market

You judge it on what basis, what scale, what comparison device? your criticisms don't make sense, no argument, no justification! it is an entry-level product at 200€! you are not talking about range or price! your video sucks and stupid! it is also the new trend for clickbait titles. there is a title, all that remains is to make a video that is worth it! hard work and talent is better than titles!

It does not look 90's. Back then, the designs were way uglier. In the 90s and zero years, it was mostly cheap grey, blue, black or purple plastic in goofy shapes that we thought looked futuristic. The interfaces were mostly buttons, if not only buttons. The look of this thing is a LOT better looking than 90s gear.

I'd say the patching options are not limited at all. For instance the VC mix out can act as either DC voltage source, mixer or an attenuator. All of these have a lot of utility for Crave or other eurorack compatible gear - for instance you can connect the VC Mix Out with knob setting over 12'o'clock (>2.5v) to Model D LC Gate and you can make it drone all the day. My cons for Crave: * Ugly * Takes a lot of desk space * Only 3.5mm audio out * Clickety click "keyboard" section * Can't be easily mounted to a rack Pros: * It's basically Mother 32 I kept my unit for a year until I eventually sold it and got Mother32 proper.

This was a great video, and I was prepared to not like it from the title. People should be cool, none of the "cons" are untrue, those are reasonable, honest cons. I got my crave as an intro into the modular world, so your assessment of who this is for is spot on. I had a budget on my "new studio" as well, with the intention to rarely, if ever, swap toys or upgrade. I have been very pleased. I could see, if I was a "professional musician", that there would be better tools available, but for a guy who just likes to make weird sounds and trip out for a couple of hours, it's perfect. I'm pumping it through a Zoom CDR pedal, and am in love with the sounds I'm getting.. Additionally, I can patch my volca modular through the crave to overcome the single osc issue, but tbh, its not an issue to me. Great video.

I agree and disagree, the build isn’t good, it’s superior! I look at it from a guy just getting into modular, although I have been doing synths for a long time, this is new and exciting to me and I believe many. First it’s not fair to compare a sequencer that cost’s as much as the crave to the one on the the crave. Second, yes the keypad sucks, but there is one! Next the patching capabilities are as far as I want to take them. I have a K2, another great deal from Behringer and the combo is fun as hell! Plus I have patchable effects from Dreadbox that really take the whole thing to another level. Am I going to create whole songs from it? No, but that’s not the purpose of it although it is an idea maker. I personally love the crave, but it is exactly what I wanted for the purpose I wanted for! Just my Humble opinion. Great video though, I subscribed so don’t disappoint! Lol Peace

I got the Crave a few weeks back. I'm really enjoying it and the modular patch options are pretty crazy for the amount of patch points included, but I can definitely see myself swapping this for a Neutron or Model D when I get a standalone sequencer, precisely because it *would* be pretty great to have a second dual oscillator synth to go with my Minibrute.

It's a entry-level low-cost entry to modular synth for the price and since it has the same layout for a similar Moog unit interests me. You are not a beginner I so let not kill someone else grove, should have looked into it more before you spent your money for it.

Good review! Haha, I actually do love that cheesy retro look Behringer seems to put out on most of their synths. Arturia makes beautiful stuff but lately I've been all about big ugly knobs all over the place. Makes me feel like I'm piloting a synth. It's weird, but it just inspires me to write stuff. Sometime within the last year, products with a bunch of LEDs, launchpads, touch screens, etc make me feel like I'm making music with toys. Of course just my opinion and in no way meant to disrespect. I'm probably just going through a phase lolll. Great review! Subscribed. :)

Its cheap, quality built, has a beautiful sound, a fantastic sequencer, good filter and midi & cv connection with other semimodular stuff (in my case a Moog Werkstatt01 / Behringer 2600 / keystep). It is certainly not only interesting for beginners. If you need FX then connect it to a DAW (like other more expensive analog synths) or feed then in another synth (in my case Dreadbox Typhon, Acces Virus, or Akai MPC-One). So don't think in limitations. This beautiful synth is a valuable building block in a bigger setup. The perfect synth just doesn't exist.

Cons 1 to 4 are ridiculous. You ware aware what you buy (i hope) - mononophonic, one osc. synth with 32 patch points. Conclusion is that you shuld buy different synth. Overall, thanks for video.
