Reading, an addiction that doesn't harm self or others. Needs solitude and silence, very rare in this noisy world!👍❤️

I totally agree with Professor Cremin about the fact that reading can change children's life. I have gained from your webinar a lot of insight about techniques that I could use in my action research about ways to improve reading habits among middle school students

Here's the thing: If reading was so pleasurable for kids then they'd all do it. Most kids don't find it pleasurable, so most kids don't read. You can't force someone to find something enjoyable if they just don't. I tried reading various genres of books as a kid and I just couldn't ever sit there and finish one, it literally made me miserable to read. Now that I'm in my 40s, I actually don't mind reading now and then, but it's still not something I'd choose to do over watching a really good TV show, or listening to my favourite podcast.

The idea of reading more than one thing at once was a game changer for me as a reader. (At primary school in the 80s we were issued with one book to read and that was all they cared about, at home i would read, Beano, Dandy, Zoo Books but never the book I was given. This i believe had a great impact on my relationship with reading.) I first heard the idea from Victoria Coren-Mitchell, her reasoning was that you watch television this way, Peaky Blinders one evening, The Crown the following evening...so why not literature. It is great to hear Roger support the idea.
