That is a M25 movement and is a workhorse and is a hand wind not an automatic. The reason you could not move the hands is when you removed the screw holding the set lever it uncoupled it to the stem and crown. Doing that makes it so your cant adjust the time because the set lever can't push the rocking bar into time setting position. On that type of watch you would have to pull the crystal then take the movement out from the crystal side. What is holding it in place even after you bent the tabs is the seconds hand. Even if you got the movement out from the back you would still have to pull the crystal to put the seconds hand back on. Keep messing with it and you will be getting it .

WW2 USMC helmet covers really never looked fitted and keep in mind, the first patterns for WW2 had the slits, contrary to many "historians" who assume the non-slitted version was the first pattern.

@Blighty Vintage Just finished putting the chinstraps on my M1 shell and found the same problem you had with one of the bales not going over fully. Use your pliers to move the loop the bale is connected to over nearly flush with the shell it will move the bale over to the exact spot it needs to be at for the bale to move over completely so the chinstrap mount will flip over against the helmet when you strap both strape to each other against the back of the helmet.

I found this very helpful when installing a new chinstrap on my M1 helmet, because the buckles for the chinstrap are early 80s so this was very helpful when making my M1 helmet into a somewhat Vietnam era helmet.
@huntclanhunt969710 ай бұрын
Is it relatively easy to swap chinstraps? If so, that would be a big help as I could swap straps and covers to do Nam or 1980s impressions.
@jacobyouknowwhoАй бұрын
If you're still interested in finding out, yes, the 80's straps come off easily. Vietnam era straps do not, and the metal can sometimes be brittle enough to snap if you try. I personally havent had that happen but I have heard of it happening.@huntclanhunt9697

The strap you installed is an M1C strap for the Airborne liner, which has a snap inside the liner so the shell does not separate from the liner when jumping. It requires you to leave some space between the snap end of the strap and the buckle.
@Vaudeyre3 жыл бұрын
haha... yup, thats not right...that's how mine was when I bought it. It kinda makes sense in that the buckles hang down more naturally, whereas doing it the correct way, the buckles are awkward face scratchers. The paratroopers used to use tape on those buckles and on other places on the helmet to help with that, from what I understand. There's only one really good video on how to do this correctly that I've seen so far.
@FreeAmericaChannel3 жыл бұрын
@@Vaudeyre I agree, I think Battle Park West has the best video, but I'll be replacing a worn out strap on a Vietnam era M1C pretty soon. Maybe I'll do a video as well. Yes, we used green 100 MPH tape all over our gear to keep sharp edges and flappy things from being a problem.
@Vaudeyre3 жыл бұрын
@@FreeAmericaChannel Awesome, I'll keep an eye out for that video. I just dated the liner on my helmet. It's a paratrooper liner, dated 1967. Looks like the nape and the webbing type chin cup is "aftermarket", but the chin strap itself looks original. The steel pot is came with is a rear seam, in really nice condition. Dutch cover, Lonneker Textiles.
@kilo3933 жыл бұрын
@@FreeAmericaChannel I've seen Battle Park West's video and Im still not 100% sure paratroopers had their M1C chinstraps installed that way. From what I've seen in original photos the metal clips and snap ends should be facing inward snug against the rim of the liner and with the longer ends passing through the helmet loops. There should also be no slack on the snap ends. Here is an interesting forum post I found that talks about this. www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/120526-assembly-of-a-60s-70s-airborne-chinstrap/
