I just came across this after wondering about Joan. I so appreciated Joan when I was an undergraduate at the U. I realized I needed to get my Gifted and Talented Endorsement after I student taught . But, I was not placed in a school that was teaching me what I felt I needed to know to aid me in my career and differentiate curriculum. I tearfully went to her to express my concerns. She listened and placed me in an amazing school!!! I loved her care and desire to help a very young and naive girl!!!

Am I correct that critical race theory does not support censoring free expression or cancelling the employment of persons who espouse contrarian ideas? Anent diversity, as a [white male] child I was coerced to get haircutted to be allowed to attend school or have a white collar job. Are those days over so that I would be free to have my hair, as well as being secure that I would be safe to express and defend demythologizing atheist existentialism as a student, without fear of censorship or other penalty for not conforming?

CRT's focus is systemic individual racism, not individual hair or otherwise.
@bradfordmccormick86392 жыл бұрын
@@olliemck60 Respectfully, a system only exists as individuals. Fixing a system means affecting the lives of individuals, not just ideation about abstractions. I was asking about the effect of an ideology (and I do think we all have ideologies, including myself, but they often differ) upon individuals, including, the one individual who particularly concerns myself in my hope for my individual life. But maybe I have not understood your response, Si/Madam/Other?

She read, poorly, for nearly 15 minutes and said virtually NOTHING. She made a handful of good points, but she’s mentioned nothing about what CRT means for us NOW. All I hear is “professionals” theorizing and being philosophical. There’s no real plan, there’s no clear goal (I mean a real goal of substance, a plan) or foresight of this “post-racial” world that we’re supposed to be gearing toward. In fact, I can’t find much on this at all. All I’m taking away from this is that the only thing that should define me is that fact that I’m Latino (yes, latinO). I should build my life around that, and my individual identity is irrelevant to society. I’m all about teaching history, and I mean ALL history to our children. But this is not what I’m gathering from any of this. I’d love to see some real addressing of what the plans are for CRT, how it should affect us, and how we will deal with this during and after. Martell and Cecilia are great at talking a lot about nothing. I’d love to hear from people who actually know what they’re talking about…

the plan is to eliminate systemic racism and remediate its damage. Many states, cities, and corporations are doing just that. A federal commission is being assembled to recommend at the national level but given the GOP's need to satisfy its racist base and greedy donors that will take time!

@@matthewwallace7891 Of course I'm kidding. The "blasphemy" is that he seems to be saying that while the snow in (Northern) Utah/LCC is certainly "among the greatest" on earth (for downhill skiing) but perhaps not necessarily, "*the* Greatest Snow on Earth" and that there may be contenders for the title, depending on how you define "greatest."

@@ericr6816 of course, and although I haven’t read the book, I’m sure even Professor Steenburgh would agree that even if Utah has great snow, and is indeed “among the greatest” on earth, theres nothing that proves that it is *the* greatest snow on earth- ultimately this is a marketing slogan and not scientific fact.

I’ll never forget my time as a student in The MUSS. One of my all time favorite memories has to be when they started doing The MUSS Bus trips and we went to Oregon to cheer on our team there. We brought so much energy to that at one point in the game some of The MUSS broke a bench in their stadium on the 3rd Down Jump! Also loved all the signs we used to make at the tailgates before home games. I think I have photos of all those years somewhere on my computer. Good times

This is excellent. It's been amazing to witness the shift in Utah football since the students started to come, then started to care, then started to believe. I love the relationship between the team and the MUSS. The entire atmosphere of Rice-Eccles stadium has evolved into the best stadium atmosphere in the PAC12 (sorry Oregon, it's true). Grassroots in the true sense of the word.

Frankly the true embryo of THE MUSS started in the 90s, when Ron McBride first starting building the framework Urban would take to the top afterward. I and a group of friends were part of a nucleus of 30-40 students who would sit in the lowest part of the student section nearest the 50 and try to stand and cheer for the entire game.. We all mass rushed the field in 1994 for that 2nd 34-31 game vs BYU.. I still have a piece of one of those goalposts stuck in storage somewhere. It's very easy to remember because at that game in particular other fans were calling security on us because we wouldnt sit down! I mean we had to FIGHT for our right to paarrr-tay! .. Wait, I digress. Seriously though, we had to have the student government get involved, because the idea that security would harass students for trying to be cheering vigorously and standing? INSANITY to think of it now looking back. I will forever feel very special in knowing that our struggle and involving student government at least got awareness of serious student involvement slowly percolating thru channels. I think that early "spadework" made it easier for Urban to push his idea a bit later.

CRT is hogwash. Portugal is the ultimate party responsible for slavery. No one is actively trying to defund Portugal. Jews were enslaved and quashed by many nations. Jews are not actively trying to defund Egypt, Italy, Germany, Russia and others for past sins. Moses Asom proves that there is no ceiling in this country based on skin color. In his native country, he would have never ever achieve what he did here in the U.S.
@cokedrinker9413 жыл бұрын
CRT is a legal outlook on the systems in a society and how they manifest by outcomes. If you think the theory is BS. This will happen everytime in this order: You'll be accused of not knowing what CRT is. Once you prove you actually do know what it is you'll be asked why you're against teaching history. Once you point out that CRT itself actually admits it isn't a historical outlook but rather a societal outlook you will be labeled a racist attempting to defend the systems that enable racism. Then you will define racism correctly and be told that racism is not actually defined that way. CRT only works if you redefine racism and insult people who question it. It's a dangerous and intellectually insulting ideology.

Q: Theoretically...if say like we nationally divided ourselves tomorrow into black and non-black communities...where would President Biden be allowed to live? A: Sadly, neither community would accept him. Because he wouldn't fit in anywhere, it'd be in his best interest to find a more accepting country.
