I want everyone to realize….we buy land, we build it, and the whole process we have to get permission…..permits, codes, etc….thats not the way freedom works. Thats the way slaves do. Dwell on that for a while

Hello Tie Life family, Im an architecture student who's studying about rammed Earth Construction and your video helps me a lot, I mean a lot. One question tho, is that I notice that you pour concrete and cure it for the foundation or where the rammed earth wall will be put on top of and I see that there is no reinforcement bars and you just put it after installing the form work, do you drill whole for the reinforcement bars to be place placed on? thank you The Tie Life family ❤

Hi! Thanks for watching! Yes we install rebar at 24” on centre, on either side of the insulation both vertically and horizontally. This building is sitting on a concrete footing. We have doweled in the steel to the footing as we go to work enable a safer worksite. The steel could be cast in when the footing is poured as well. Either way works. Hope this helps.

Hi. I’ve been following the build through your series of videos, and I’m hugely impressed, particularly at the way you’ve continued to work through the extremes of climate. I like your eco credentials too, but what I don’t understand is why - along with most other North American rammed-earth projects - you choose to use cement in your mix rather than lime. Lime is equally strong as a binder/stabiliser, but in the long term (decades, centuries even) it performs better. It does take longer to cure, but unlike cement it doesn’t harm the environment. And when the structure’s life is over and it’s demolished, all you have left is earth, because the lime has reverted to its original form. None the less, what you’d achieved is great. Well done.

Thank you for the well thought out comment. We will definitely look into the use of lime. Not sure how available it is to us in this area. Will still be worth obtaining some and completing some test samples or a smaller project with this as the stabilizer. Thanks again for watching!

Thanks for sharing. Next time you may want him to ask everyone to stop drilling when speaking and wait to speak until after everyone has revealed because the sensitivity of the microphones automatically pick up the noise and it was interrupting the sound when he was talking. Just an observation.

Thanks for your input. This workshop is being conducted on our property for the benefit of the workshop participants .. not specifically for our channel. We are filming as a "fly on the wall" to bring this workshop to the masses. The instructor and participants are not required to be quiet or not drill when we are filming! We are doing our best in post production to ensure that you the viewer has the best opportunity to capture the workshop experience. Hope you understand and will continue to watch as the workshop unfolds and we reveal our next rammed earth project 😄

Sorry you feel that way. This workshop has never been filmed before, and for us to be able to capture what we can for you the viewer (on our channel ) is rare. We are doing our best here and we do appreciate any input from our viewers. By moving on you are missing out on a great opportunity to see how rammed earth is built, and be able to witness a workshop that people have travelled across the globe to attend.

Hi! Lovely video as always! question on carrots, have you ever planted inside greenhouse? I have 2x now planted in bags inside greenhouse with excellent dirt and researched what else to add to bag containers. the greens grow huge but the carrots are strings! plenty of space. just don't know if they grow good in bags? also, radishes, 2x and same outcome. hoping next year to build a bed like yours and try the carrots in there....i see your radishes did excellent! thank u in advance! 🙂

Hello! I'm thinking carrots specifically would be best grown outside in a garden in the earth. They are a root veg so they like that connection to the ground! Happy planting 🥕 🌱.

The State doesn't appreciate being omitted from their unconstitutional authority to control and tax the actions of citizens. As a builder myself, the local building departments are the law of the land. It's cheaper to pay their ever-increasing fees than fight their tyranny. There are places in America where one can build without intrusive oversight, but they are far removed from the comforts of civilized living. America used to be the land of the free. No longer.

Actually in Texas there are many counties, where the only permit is the septic permit that is based on the state's requirements. So if you live in county, you don't need another permit for anything.
