Over the years I have come back to your videos for instruction. Originally you helped me playing caixa in a samba band. Now I'm learning Forro and learning to play the triangle. Thank you from the UK for your videos.

This is an outstanding tutorial, Michael. Surprisingly, until today there is still so little material teaching bloco afro percussion styles on KZbin, and your videos definitely stand out. Thanks so much for your excellent and pioneering work as an educator of Brazilian and Cuban percussion on the Internet - Philip Galinsky (Director, Samba New York!).

Thank you very much for your kind words, Philip! I'm glad that you enjoy the videos. I wish you all the best with your group in NY and perhaps we'll meet one day. Next year I will visit NY and the USA.

a quite rare demo of original "Sonoridad Cubana" drums, thank you. I think this is THE sound you wish to have from congas. great playing that brings out all the qualities. What makes them special to you, how do they differ from other conga drums?

How do you tune a set of four bougarabous ? I know that the 2 larger drums with the deeper tones go on the ends and I often see the lower tone large drum on the right and the higher tone large drum on the left but is there a traditional way they should be set up or is a matter of personal preference? Same question for the smaller two that go in between the large one.

The lowest drum is very often on the right side, but I am not sure that this is always the case. When they play on three drums, they play without the lowest drum. The highest drum is mostly placed at the right middle side. That is how I saw it with the boucarabou players in Senegal.

Very well done as you show other ways to express Son Montuno. As you may well know already that some percussionists play in the "Traditional" way. You could agree although I prefer to add "Variations" to the norm. Like you say add Melody to the Son Montuno.

Hi Michael, thanks for the great movie and movies, do you have a simple basic movie that teaches Repique starting and stopping Samba Reggae, just how the repique entering the Batucada in to Samba Reggae and stopping the group?.
@MichaeldeMiranda2 ай бұрын
About two weeks ago I posted a tutorial on my Patreon channel with a samba-reggae song. In this song I start with a traditional Olodum intro and also a traditional way to stop and a way to continue. The tutorial is called samba reggae intro, outro and break tutorial. You can look it up, if you want. This is how many groups start and stop samba reggae. I wish you good luck.
