I have a story to tell about this song: many years ago there used to be a jukebox radio station which played songs by pair but never announced who was singing. The Raven (often paired with The Grandmother) struck me so deeply, I was trying, for years, to find out who was the singer. This was before smartphones, Shazam etc. I gave up eventually. Fast forward a few years and I was dating, briefly, an English girl, a singer and told her about this quest. I went away and one night was re-watching The Spanish Prisoner when an email pinged. She wrote: come back, I got your singer and even bought you the CD. She told me who the singer was, there and then - the actor playing the lead in The Spanish Prisoner. How is that for a coincidence?!

For mer personally, this album is the amalgamation of what Chesky Records sought out to do. Whilst it's a personal fave, it's also to be considered as what will happen at the intersection of technology and artistry. Of course, it could never be what it is without Amber Rubarth's amazing vocals and the impeccable taste and choice of the musicians in the room. It's simply a must-listen not just for people who identify as audiophiles, but surely it's a must-listen for anyone who claims to enjoy music.
