Great video. I am starting my old school Haro Master restore/rehab/rebuild very soon. The bike has the painted front triangle with chrome rear. Same with forks and bars;two tone). Do I need to worry about the paint with the citric acid or does it not affect it? Thanks.

I’d recommend you don’t leave the frame in the solution too long. If the frame has a lot of rust it can turn the solution yellow which if left long enough it can slightly discolour light paint a little. A couple of days and you are fine. Frames that need a week can leave the solution very dirty. Also just make sure your tub is deep enough for the solution to completely cover the frame. You don’t want tide marks in your paint either.

@ good info, thanks. Just has some light surface rust as it’s been hanging in my garage for 20 years. Probably start with a 24 hour soak and go from there. Take care.

Does Vinegar and water work to remove -faded areas on the chrome frame?
@re-rides5 күн бұрын
Vinegar is an alternate to remove rust. And will help to make the chrome sparkle, but if the chrome is damaged, nothing can fix it unfortunately.

When it comes to painted old school frames I’m one to keep them original. If it’s lasted 50 years so far it’ll be around for another 50.

I found my 1986 Performer in a pile of trash from an eviction just down the street from my house. I drove by and spotted handlebars sticking out from the pile, and decided to stop and investigate. Once I realized that those handlebars were part of a rad bike, I saved it from a trip to the landfill.

Guy had a beautiful chrome Dyno Air frame, fork, and bars for only $150. Asked him about the serial number and shipping and he suddenly had sold them. Seeing as folks are selling complete Dyno Air’s of that same era and condition for $1-4k, I think the frame had to be fake.

Hey! Awesome video brooo! Quick question, are you familiar with the "rust spiders" or "rust veins" that appear on RAW chromoly frames with clear coating? Will this technique work to get rid of them?
@re-rides2 ай бұрын
Hey mate you’ll need to remove the clear coat first before bathing. It will then remove the rust. If the lines are deep where the rust has eaten the steel, you will still see the channels just won’t have rust in there any longer. You’ll need to seal the frame, either fill and repaint or re-clear it or rust will come back very quickly.
