Hi Rachael, hater ar going to hate. Don’t let them influence you in to doing one thing or the other. Do what you feel is goed for you and your business. I am not a fan of Patreon, but that is purely based on the fact that (I think) your business is making, not creating content, just for the sake of creating content, and I don’t want you to feel forced to do even more than you already do. I much rather buy you a generous coffee every now and then.

Really love your door! It has brought the glass feature out really well. Well done! Yes - it must be quite daunting reading some, shall I say, quite aggressive/threatening comments. Not nice at all and very strange! I have already made my feelings clear that you need to do what is right for you and your business and I will support you as much as I can. It’s been a tough year for us so know that you need to change things up to grow. I’m actually looking forward to your Patreon channel coming to fruition. By the way - I expect you already know but you can even have a tiered system for followers on there. You’re looking really well by the way. X.

When someone asks for an opinion it’s hoped that the opinions are measured and respectful..I gave my opinion, I can’t afford patreon , and I watch others who have patreon accounts who now seem only to care about those subs. ..but I expressly said I would support Rachael’s channel whatever route she chose My comments we’re not negative unless you consider a different opinion Negative ..?🤔

I can’t speak for others but, Rachael asked for opinions, and speaking for MYSELF I gave my opinion,it wasn’t unpleasant nor was it negative..I explained why I couldn’t afford to take out a subscription to the patreon channel..I also explained how SOME youtube channels only seem to care about their patreon subs and the regular viewers who built up their channel are forgotten…So perhaps painting all of us who expressed our opinions and are wary of patreon as NEGATIVE is not fair . 🤨🇬🇧

Hi - just catching up on the last few videos. I have followed people on Patreon, and unfollowed too. At the moment i am following one creator and have been for a few years now. I have stayed with her because she has created a real sense of community there that we all feel part of and want to continue. This person still does podcasts on KZbin too - yes they contain shop updates, but thats their job. It is a lot of work and effort making content, and there are costs involved too. I can see why creators put more into their patreon than the free platform. You have a limited amount of time and energy, and you need to make a living. You give a lot to viewers already, with your gentle mindful videos, going back years. I wish the critics would try doing this for a while and see how long they last. Lots of love and support from here xxx

Hi Rachael- a great episode as usual and so enjoyable ❤ I wanted to let you know that the little basket from my Summer Survival box is just so handy- last week I was embroidering some daisies on my granddaughter’s new cardigan and it was held all the bits and bobs that I was using- just great! I haven’t used it outside yet- it’s supposed to be Spring here in Tasmania but instead we seem to be having the last blast of Winter 🥶 sometimes people joke that ( because we live on a little island) we’ve lost our anchor ⚓️ and we’ve drifted closer to Antarctica 😂 it feels like we’ve done that recently! Finally, just remember what a brilliant job you do- running a small business, being a great single parent, sewing beautifully, volunteering, gardening and now painting doors- take care and do exactly what you want 😊

Your shawl is very pretty and looks so cozy. Love the door! As for KZbin, although I would not be able to afford a monthly subscription myself I think with the cost of living always rising it’s a hard struggle for a single parent so I think you should do it, it will give you a bit more income and that can’t be a bad thing. Gosh some people just do it without considering the thoughts of their followers. You are my favourite you tuber so I will always follow you on here whenever you make a video.

Thanks so much Pamela! I’ve had so many discussions about it all, with some friends who already do patreon channels themselves too. I hadn’t realised but it seems ‘ok’ to subscribe for the month, watch all you can, then end the subscription (or move to another channel for a month etc). I think that makes it much more accessible and less ‘exclusive’ etc. Obviously that’s not always in a persons budget but it did give me something to think about.

In general, I don't care what a content creator does to make money and most products or affiliate links I have found to be relevant to the channel, tastefully done or at least something that can be easily skipped. I have yet to be remotely interested in Patreon. A creator would have to provide a decent amount of value for me to pay them anything. KZbin channels are usually started as way to help a creators small business gain exposure so they have a larger audience to sell their handmade goods or whatever the case may be. A means of promoting without having to pay for advertising. Yes, it takes a ton of time and hard work, but it would anyway by having to pay someone to do it (work the 9-5) or having less sales in your Etsy, Shopify, website shop. I will say to ANYONE that viewers are experiencing the same hardships as creators and their time is just as valuable. The time they spend watching your channel and the time they spend working hard at their jobs to make a dollar. So, make it worth their time and money.
@SewraymeUk
@SewraymeUk 2 күн бұрын
Yes people get quite worked up about advertising and affiliate links as well. But at the end of the day *someone* has to pay us and if it can be them, then that means it doesn’t have to be the viewer! And we get paid, viewers get free videos - win win 🤷🏼‍♀️. And of course people are free to skip whichever parts of any video they’re not interested in. And yes I agree, paid for content has to be worth the money!

Hello. I just found your video today and really enjoyed It. I thought I’d add my 2 cents. KZbin is a lot of work. It’s an amazing platform but you also need to pay your bills. I think utilizing paid platforms like Patreon is a great idea. I know several channels that use their Patreon channel as a vlog style format while keeping their KZbin channel for certain tutorial videos. Like you mentioned only those that join a paid tier can see those videos. It’s a little more comfortable talking about personal things on a platform like Patreon. Not everyone can afford Patreon but not everyone can afford to purchase things from our shops either. That shouldn’t change what we do. Do what feels right for you and your family and those that enjoy your videos will find their way. Then after a bit you can reevaluate and see what’s working for you. Good luck!

So go for it Ive enjoyed everything you’ve produced already.

I appreciate your honesty about Patreon and while I wouldn’t join I totally get your reason for it. What bothers me is that some crafters have started off saying how great it is to be part of a lovely community. Then they started telling you how great such and such a vacuum cleaner is or a certain lamp. Then they go on Patreon and the only time they appear on KZbin is when they are trying to sell something or you know their numbers are falling. You go from being part of their ‘lovely community’ to being their customer. Hope we don’t lose you from here. Good luck with whatever you decide.

It’s an interesting debate I seem to have opened up. What I’m hearing is that my viewers don’t want to have to pay for my videos. However I (and other creators) need income. If a company wants to work with me (and therefore pay me) to mention their products, I get paid, and my viewers still get to watch videos for free. I’m not sure how it can be fairer than that tbh 🤷🏼‍♀️. And at the end of the day if I needed to take paid employment elsewhere and be out of the house 9-5, then quite simply there will be no more Sew Ray Me videos. I know which option I’d prefer. And if the channels I enjoy can find ways to still create then I’m all for that, however they decide to do it.

@@SewraymeUk I totally understand that Rachel and support your right to do it. However, for me it changes the aesthetic of the video and I’m waiting for the sales pitch. It changes from a crafting video to an ‘influencing’ video. I don’t want influencers but I love the shared vibe of crafting video. That quilt-as-you-go tutorial was making me feel like running to my sewing machine ! So many grateful thanks for this inspiration! I was really interested to listen to your thoughts about Patreon and I can fully understand where you come from as a a single mum cum business woman. The reality of the economic situation is getting starker and starker and it would be totally hypocritical not to consider it. I do support a couple of KZbin channels via Patreon and although I had promised myself to rotate after a year, two years down the line, I feel that my loyal cap is preventing me from moving to someone else… And you were spot on right when you said that despite some “promises”, a number of them are simply diluting themselves or becoming so scarce that you do end up feeling abandoned despite having been there to put them in a position of success such to turn a hobby into a source of income… As I am not in for the any extensive spread of personal stuff, “peeping tomming” isn’t my cup of tea, I have unsubscribed recently to some because they had lost their ways and souls. Doesn’t it remind you of the time when we move from “free” TV channels to subscription/ paying ones ? Ponder, ponder …🌼

Thank you for your thoughts. I have been thinking that it is very like all the streaming tv services - and quite simply some have them and some do not, and it’s nothing to get bitter about 🤷🏼‍♀️. (Reflecting on some comments I’ve received). Also a friend pointed out to me that it’s perfectly acceptable to support one patreon channel, enjoy as many videos as you can, then rotate to another and do the same. As the viewer I think that’s a very good way of doing it and getting your monies worth. You can always return to favourites at a later date and catch up.

No one can (or should) blame you for needing to protect and support yourself. Why not try both - eg use KZbin as you always have and supplement your income with the Patreon stuff. That way your KZbin fans will not be disappointed and you can still share more of your life outside of your business on a safer platform. Don’t know if you’ve watched A Homespun House lately - Molly often shares sneak peeks of her Patreon videos at the start of her KZbin ones. You could try that too.
