One time, it rained so hard on the weekend we went to MY Ren Faire that we had to take shelter under this very small tent a vendor nearby had set up. One thing to expect at any Ren Faire in the country (or the world) is unpredictable weather

Cool place! Shame you didn't get any spookies! I'm pretty sure those glasses are for brewing teas/coffees. That paper is a liner that'd you'd put in a brewer. If I had to guess, throw in a bag, pour hot water over it, throw away paper with grounds afterwards!

I worked Faires for 12 years back in the 1900's. Our home Faire was a Renaissance Faire where nothing in the way of period crafts for sale inside the gates was machine made. Anything sold in the Faire had to pass a jury of Faire Craftspeople to be eligible. The cast had to attend three weekends of workshops and classes and one Dress rehearsal weekend before the twelve weeks of the Faire's run and all costumes had to pass costume inspection by a jury of period historians. The site was beautiful. All oaks and glades. All buildings and shelters used period materials or convincing substitutes. I acted, improved, danced, hawked, made chain mail and met my wife there. The acting and improv were free but high quality. The hawking earned me lunch most days from the booth I did it for. The dancing and Chain mail were paid gigs which helped with gas. The wife's long gone but I cherish the time we had and the romance of the place we met. Oh my stars I miss all that but it changed and all those standards that made for such an awesome show were watered down and/or eliminated. Now it's just a creaky little fantasy faire with Bondage Troll and Pirate camps as features, plopped down on some dusty, ugly city land. Their ads still claim they're "The Original" but no, they're just what's left of the Original Faire where they go through the motions but don't appear to actually grasp or honor the history or the possibilities. Like Cargo cultists.
@ScoutmasterTravels21 күн бұрын
@CaptApple Thank you very much for sharing that with us. I got a small taste of what a thoughtfully-planned Ren Faire was like, and my condolences to both your wife and your local Faire's current arrangement. It always makes me sad to hear that standards degrade over time, and how the quality of experience was much greater years before I could witness them myself.

@@ScoutmasterTravels You'd have loved it. I worked Larkspur and Kenosha as well, back when. I've always heard great things about the Minnesota Faire. Something about an Italian bakery in a cake shaped building that opens up into a musical show. I hope that still exists. 30 year old review : ).

I also recommend the Oklahoma Ren Faire at the Castle of Muskogee, they have a dedicated space with a Castle & surrounding grounds with themed areas like Italian Pavilion, Celtic Quarter, Pirates & Mermaid cove, Fairy Forest, etc. It's huge & it's all dedicated buildings & huts with a lot of trees for shade. Do wear good shoes, it's a lot of hiking on gravel & dirt winding paths. Lots of fun performances, musical numbers, juggling, magic, human chess, and fun games like archery & knife or axe throwing.
