Many thanks for the comparison- am finally forced to Pro and been frustrated. At least now i can see what I won’t be able to do, so can quit searching for. I now also can see that editing shapefiles may be easier, but the process for file arrangements needs to be relearned.

I am glad you found this video informative. Keep in mind this video is now 6 years old. ArcGIS Pro has come along way since then and had added a lot of capability. I can say once you get accustom to Pro I think you will like it. I now hate to go back. BTW I am the one that created this video but no longer work for this company.

That normally indicates a version issue with the CAD file. It might be a newer version of the DWG that ArcGIS is not able to read even though it thinks it can. I would suggest back saving the DWG to an older version.

Great video! I followed all the steps you did but my cad file is rotated differently compared to my gis layers. Is there a good way to rotate the cad drawing so that it matches the rotation of the gis data? Hopefully that makes sense and thanks for the help.
@jacksmith5133 Жыл бұрын
To give more details. Everytime I add the control points and hit apply, the CAD data rotates itself and doesn’t fit within my gis data
@67Stang Жыл бұрын
Hello, There is a rotate tool on the georeferencing toolbar that might help. Also check your control points and make sure you are correctly matching them up. You should first click on the location in your CAD file and next click on the matching location in your GIS data. Remember to select two locations that are diganal from one another if possble. Hope this helps. BTW I am the one that created this video. I just do not work at this company any more. @@jacksmith5133

I work for a City who has a GIS department. We control the utilities side of things. Locations, type, roads, materials, and other information tied to the attibutes. Nobody knows what we do, nobody knows the information we have. Nobody knows how to ask us questions because nobody understands the information we have. I have not properly used anything in our data for well over a year. Basically I sit at my employment and read news, check out google and shop sales flyers. At what point do i go to my employer and tell them the truth about what i do and what i think about this whole GIS idea and what a waste of time and money it is for the organization. It costs $500k a year for us to run this nonsense and nobody understands it or utilizes what we have. Thanks.... Confused Carl
@67Stang Жыл бұрын
I am a little confused by your question. Are you in the GIS department and oversee the utility data or something else. Assuming you are in the know about GIS and the data that exists, I have another question you might consider. If no one knows what you do and no one knows how to ask you questions or understand the data you have, why don't you educate others so they have a better understanding instead of just reading news, checking out google or looking at sales flyers. You could hold lunch and learns, send links to youtube videos with good information instruction or encourage them to go to conferences with GIS content. You could also go the their offices and find out what their concerns are so you might suggest how the GIS might help. Have you tried to deploy a web app or two to make things easier to access. Any and all of these activities can help add value to what you do within your organization. I have had to do things like this throughout my career. BTW I am the one that is talking in this video. I am not with this company anymore but still doing GIS.

Anything related to Arc or Esri is a complete scam. They have scammed for 2 decades. Unless you're in a position where you need to support millions and millions of points and data.... use it. Otherwise use cad. This GIS stuff is an absolute nightmare for someone with 0 experience.

can't we just import the CAD file directly in arcgis pro without converting it
@67Stang Жыл бұрын
Depends on what you mean by importing. You can view CAD files in ArcGIS Pro with out converting. In addition you can change symbology, select features and perform queries on CAD data in ArcGIS Pro. However if you want to edit data or integrate into your existing GIS data you need to convert it. By the way, I am the one that made this video originally but I am no longer associated with this company.

why duplicate it at the split policy
@67Stang Жыл бұрын
Hello, I assume you are asking why duplicate the existing value when you split a feature. That will depend on your situtation and why you might split a feature. If you split a feature in order to create an intersection for a new feature coming in then the value might remain the same. So duplicating the existing value would make sense. Hopefully this makes sense. BTW I was the one that made this video originally but I am no longer with this company.

where can i find similar cad data like this?
@67Stang Жыл бұрын
Not sure exactly what you mean by CAD data like this. But CAD data comes from a lot of places and people. I often get mine from Professional Engineers, Surveyors, Landscape Architects and similar design professionals. With the increased use of GNSS such as GPS, the quality of the georeferencing has gotten a lot better compared to what I had to work with back in the 90s and early 2000s. BTW I am the one that created this video but I am no longer with the company that owns the channel.

Bummer. Is it really only limited to 2 control points when georef CAD files?? I could use a few more control points for the drawing I'm looking to georef.
@67Stang Жыл бұрын
Yes sadly Esri limits georeferencing of CAD files to only 2 control points. The reason they have given in the past is that CAD files are typically more accurate than GIS data so they do not want negatively impact that accuracy if at all possible. Having created many CAD files myself and worked with many surveyors and engineers, I know that assumption is just not true. But it is what it is. ArcMap, Esri's older desktop GIS app, is the same way. BTW I am the one that created this video but no longer work for the company that owns the channel.

is there anyway to bring in autocad annotations into arcgis pro. i have linear dimensions for the outside of an excavation area, but when i bring it into arcgis pro the dimensions arnt attached to any polyline or in the annotation layer
@67Stang Жыл бұрын
Bringing annotation from a CAD drawing into GIS has always been challenging at best. The two applications do not treat or store annotation in the same way. ArcMap had a specific CAD Annotation Conversion tool that would work sometimes. ArcGIS Pro does not have such a tool but I understand one is in the works. Not sure when it will be added though. It might be possible to copy from the CAD file directly into an existing annotation feature class. However if you want it to be linked to a GIS feature it might be easier to just recreate it in ArcGIS Pro manually. Sorry I know this was not the answer you were hoping for.
@patrickmesa1947 Жыл бұрын
@@67Stang no actually that helps alot lmao. I couldn't find anything so it makes me feel better that I wasn't missing anything. I just recreated using layout view and manually just added text boxes. Next time I'm just going to convert to shape file and add a layer file to denote length of the lines, be so much easier.

i guess i'm confused how to know which courses on esri would apply to earning a GISP? i'd love some clarification on this.
@67Stang Жыл бұрын
Hello Beka, I hope I can help answer this. Pretty much any course from Esri could be used for education points toward getting or maintaining the GISP certification. They are all GIS related. They would be treaded as non-accredited courses. Hopefully this helps to clarify it. BTW I was the one that created this video but am no longer with the company. However I do have my GISP certification.

@@bekacooper2365 Yes it doesn't matter if it is paid or unpaid. For any claim that is under 2 points, you are not required to provide documentation. Most videos that do not provide a certificate would be under a point so you should be good there.

Hey thanks for the comment. I originally created this video but am not with the company anymore. This is a good question. So what I did was figure out what scale I need the maps to print at. I then used that to determine the size my index grid rectangles needed to be. Being in the United States, we tend to like things to be based on scales of one inch equals so many feet. So if I wanted the map book pages to print at 1 inch equals 100 feet and I had a map area in the layout of 10 inches by 15 inches, then my index grid retangles would be 1,000 feet by 1,500 feet. Hopefully that helps.

Can I use this for my 4090?
@67Stang Жыл бұрын
Without knowing what your other components are I could not say for sure but I think a 750 watt would not be enough for a 4090. I would think a minimum of an 850 watt would be needed. You can use PC Part Picker to do a build based on the components you have or plan to use and it will tell you what wattage you need. Always go a bit higher to give a buffer. Hope this helps. BTW I am the one in the video. eGIS use to be my company until it was acquired.

@@getonmalvl I don't think it will be an issue of age more the required wattage. The 4090 ships with an adapter that should work with this PSU.
