I went through the archives and selected drawings, paintings, and video that highlight the beginnings of ideas and the moments of revelation that gradually develop into final paintings, murals, and installations.

I selected 180 pieces made between 2020 and 2023 that focus on single elements in isolation. I explore color, form, technique, and composition with the intent to practice and experiment.

During the time I made this work, I almost always recorded myself painting. I went through my hard drives and found footage for over fifty of these studies, and I’ve been editing it into short videos that show the creation process.

180 Studies was initially exhibited at HVW8 Gallery in Los Angeles as part of my show "Gates of Heaven" in 2023, and available now online for the first time.

Pencil, acrylic, china marker, tempura stick, and Krink K60 paint marker on an array of paper stock, sizes: 8.5x11in (21.5×28cm), 9x12in (23×30cm), and 11x14in (28x35.5cm).
Each piece is signed, numbered, and embossed.
