This music chronicles the final year of Gurdjieff's life, from December, 1948, to October 16th, 1949, just before his death on October 29th. These recordings were made on the 11th floor of the Wellington Hotel in Manhattan and in Gurdjieff's apartment in Paris. Many pieces were recorded in the presence of Gurdjieff's students and guests, who, after enjoying a long, elaborate dinner meal (a cherished ritual of Gurdjieff) would trade stories and jokes with their host (some of which are captures on these recordings), before settling around the master as he improvised on his lap-held harmonium; Gurdjieff called it his moosic.
