A pilotless plane. Bond chasing it on a motorbike. A looming cliff edge. A seemingly inescapable situation… no problem for 007. Bond (Pierce Brosnan) takes extreme measures to escape the Russian base in GOLDENEYE (1995). The free-fall dive was performed for real by stuntman B.J. Worth. He said: “It was probably one of the most difficult stunts I’ve had to do for a Bond film.”

Interesting fact, Pierce Brosnans wife always wanted him to be James Bond, who herself was in a Bond movie. When Pierce Brosnan was casted for the movie, her dream came true but she passed away before watching it.

This is movie magic. There was a promotional film released that showed this snowy runway was actually an abandoned airstrip in the green fields north of London. The first appearance of the plane uses oil tanks to hide the sides and then all shots thereafter are framed low so you never see either side of the runway. The wide shot showing the facility, the plane, and runway was a terrific glass matte painting by Derek Meddings. GoldenEye holds up because care and detail were put into its sets, locations and special effects. The Nintendo 64 era likely fueled a new generation of Bond fans, and this was their first experience.

The fact that there isn't any blood when Trevelyan is shot actually makes perfect sense, because that's him faking his death- the Soviet officer just loaded a blank as the first round in his magazine, and when he "shot" Trevelyan, Trevelyan simply played dead

This was definitely meant to be Daltons movie with the Soviet theme and the more dark story than the other brosnan titles. Im still glad Brosnan got the role though because he and sean bean abosolutely nailed their roles and saved the franchise. Would have still been interesting seeing Dalton in this one though with alan rickman or Anthony hopkins as trevelyan.

I would never sacrifice any of the 25 Bond films we've got but I often wonder, what would 2 more Timothy Dalton Bond movies have looked like? Or a 5th Brosnan film? Or 1 or 2 other Lazenby sequels? I would have loved to see those.

@@SoftAsABaboonAss I would sacrifice For Your Eyes Only, A View to a Kill and Die Another Day. For Your Eyes Only while a good film would've been perfect for Dalton's first Bond film as it was one of the fewer darker films of the time. A View to a Kill would've also been a better movie if Dalton was in the role, and lastly Pierce Brosnan deserved to go out better than Die Another Day. Everything or Nothing should've been his last movie.

@@SerjLevonyuk yes and no. Some airplanes do. In this case, the airplane fell as it should because when it left the "runway" it didn't have enough speed. Most airplanes are built with positive dynamic stability, which means as soon as it gained speed, it would start to level out. The most unrealistic part of this scene however is that Bond manages to recover it by violently pulling on the controls. That would've overloaded the airplane beyond the structural limit.

I couldn’t agree more. One of my top 5 or 6 favorite bond films, but the others are all in the bottom 10. 006 and Xenia being two of the greatest Bond villains played a pivotal role in the films success.

All the big 4 (Connery, Moore, Brosnan, Craig) have one humdinger. Goldfinger, The Spy who Loved me, Goldeneye and Casino Royale. They also have some absolute rotten eggs. Lazenby and the criminally underused Dalton can't qualify on account of not having as many chances.

Although pierce isn't my favorite Bond actor, this was one of the best bond opening sequences in the whole bond Anthology series. From the opening sequence with the bungy jump off the dam and the pulling out of the Propeller Cessna🛩 just in the nick of time.🕙 then the Goldeneye theme coming in right after with,🎵dun, dun, dun, dun!🎶 Let's not forget also having one of the best Bond girls to grace the screen. The exceptionally attractive, sultry, gorgeous, bombshell femme fetal Femke Jansen!💃

I really like the part when the general shoots the trigger-happy soldier, even though it's inconsequential story progression, it say lot about his character. Show how petty, vindictive and ruthless he is. It's very illustrative. It's one thing to discipline a soldier for acting stupid, but killing them out of spite is goes too far. Villains punish their subordinates for failure, but they usually do it after the fact not when fighting the hero. Sometimes actions speak louder than words and its a great way to conveyed a characters nature.

The tanks in the room contain flammable gas that would be ignited if a round hit it the right way. Plus the dam was supposed to be a disguised chemical weapons plant, so probable issue of causing a leak that would kill them.
