Hi Steve, 1st time viewer, KZbin inboxed me this video. I loaded up KZbin to watch Episode 30 of Project Binky, and your video style reminds me of those great chaps at Bad Obsession, and just look how far they’ve come just sticking with the one project (ignoring the Escargot). I watch an awful lot of car/tech/DIY videos, and it’s great to see a skilled British KZbinr do what I think a lot of British viewers have wanted for a while. Great step by step instructions, demystifying the mechanics processes so giving us the confidence that we too could start tackling our own little projects. Absolutely brilliant video, looking forward to watching your playlists, and I wish you the best of luck in gaining more popularity. Well done 👍🏻

Restoring a totaled car will hardly ever be very profitable when counting your own hours, but it is an amazing way to get familiar working on the car and it can be satisfying to see it going from it's totaled state to looking pristine again

I’m a panel beater to trade and have been repairing write offs on an off for the past 20 years and what a lot of folk don’t realise is that (when repaired) a recorded write off is worth about a third less compared to a straight one, so you’ve got to be getting the car and parts for next to nowt to make it worth while.There’s so many folk on KZbin who end up spending more buying and repairing a write off than it would be to by a straight one, and in real terms they have made a significant loss. I recently watched another KZbinr make a right arse of repairing a fiesta ST, he was a mile out of his depth and his “welding” was appalling and he ended up having to get a pro to bail him out. However you done yours to a decent and safe standard and essentially got a years depreciation free motoring and a slight profit to take onto the next one. 👍🏻

Anything less than 15 pounds an hour for labour is a waste of time. Electricity, telephone charges, odd materials like soaps, polishes, cleaners. Don’t mention rents and rates, tools and similar. Anything less than 10% return on your money invested is bad business. Does the tax man now want 20 % too. Been there done that. Buy and sell cheap houses instead !.
@Sparkplugsteve4 жыл бұрын
True but I never bought it as an investment or for profit. It was just a cheaper way of getting a fiesta st for the wife rather than paying 8k. I'm not sure how many hours I had In the car but I bet I'd have less than minimum wage in the profit though. But a yrs motoring for free isn't so bad.
@BRI33NOR4 жыл бұрын
Spark Plug Steve As long as you are happy Steve. I did similar work for a living, self employed with two paid staff.It was a nightmare to stay in profit. It is the hidden costs that bite into what appears to be profit, just replacing tools which wear out, break, become necessary for a different model and so on. What finally finished me was having to pay sick pay when any one of the staff was ill and the vast increase in business rates. At one period I had two staff ill, paying them several hundred pounds per week and unable to take on the work to cover the costs. But you are happy with what you did and that is all that matters. Because you have done several vehicles and plan more I wrongly assumed yo were trying to make a profit. Wasn’t clear why you sold the car you did for your wife though, have you replaced the car now for her ?. Enjoy your videos, you do a good repair job.

@Alexander_l3224 жыл бұрын
@Josh are you abit slow? After buying it, repairing it , using it for a year he still made £600 profit is not bad at all. Try to finance one for a year would still be about £2500 so deduct that from the cost of the car as well. I'd say he made more than £600 in terms of use. Mate you need to wake up or else you'll be left behind! Could call it a free drive for a year? Whatever, it was a good deal at both ends.
@Alexander_l3224 жыл бұрын
@Josh also I will say that if he was doing it for purely profit then obviously 3 months work on and off for £600 is shitty but better than a kick up the arse. But if that was the case he could turo it or something and easily make money from that and then sell the car after.
