You say at the 8:50 minute mark, that there are other factors as well. Giving 100% throttle or "removing" torque limiters isn't necessarily a bad thing... It doesn't mean that the boost will spike at max boost at 1.5k rpm, it's up to the tuner to decide the desired boost/load/timing at specific rpm. I never had with my stage 1, 2 or 3 map such an overboost problem at such low rpm even at full throttle. The map you possibly refer to isn't a really popular one, because i can't imagine the big tuners doing something like that. And even if the car reaches peak boost at 2-2.5k rpm the timing strategy changes accordingly to ensure the desired load is met. Instead of telling people to use a certain oil, which is good because you really put a lot of effort learning about this stuff, you should preferrably tell people to avoid bad or risky tuners. Keep up the good videos :)

Very informative video Steve, thank you. A few years ago we bought a ST180 what felt very agressive and had a lot of torque steer (what my wife hated) and te power died off above 5000RPM. A good few months later I ordered a CP2 map from Collins performance. The car transformed in a positive way with a very progressive powerband all the way up to 6000RPM with very little torque steer at low RPM. So I think that the car was already tuned with low RPM full throttle map and my GUESS is that the Collins CP2 map isn’t allowing this. This is just my own experience with it and just a guess, never logged any of this. Have no experience with LSPi oil, I’m using MPM EB oil. Btw: i recently saw a ST250 engine with a exploded piston so I guess this LSPi is a problem with more boosted engines.

Great video, For reference regarding pressure, the value in kPA stated on your software is from absolute zero (vacuum), the earth atmosphere adds approx 100kPa or 1bar. Hence most gauges are set to 1bar above absolute zero (that we commonly use), this is known as barg (bar gauge), this is why you can get negative pressure, which really doesn't exist. its just pressure below the atmospheric pressure. Ford I suspect use absolute pressure as the car sees regularly sub atmospheric pressure. 0 barA = -1barG, 1barA=0barG (this is surface of earth typical pressure), 2barA = 1barG etc etc Fun way I think of it is, when you suck on a straw when you drink, you are lowering the pressure in your mouth and the pressure of the atmosphere, is still 100Kpa or 1bar, hence the liquid is being pushed by the atmosphere into your mouth. fluid always travels to lower pressure.

Great advice and very informative. It just shows the difference in tuners. It's safe to say stage 1s 2s and 3s are not equal. You can see what mountune were so 'safe' in figures. Hardly any difference in gears 1 and 2 then you get the torque throughout the higher revs and gears. I'm running Revo stage 1. It's definitely more perky than mountune and doesn't appear to give you it all at once so I'm presuming 'safe' as they claim to be designed over 1000s of miles testing. I think the oil temp is definitely a contributing factor. You see people just jump into tuned hot hatches and wheel spin off or thrash it cold. I think it's been mentioned by a few in the comments. You definitely need to get the car upto temp (oil and not radiator). I can't see why you'd want full boost and torque from the off. It's just asking to break stock parts on the car. I'd rather have it up the rev and gear range👍 I fully understand why you wouldn't name tuners. I've seen KZbin Automotive people mention companies and having to do a grovelling apology days later (probably threatened with being sued😂).

LSPI is better controlled with "tightening" the spark plug gap; especially when tuning for higher horsepower off small liter engines. Even choosing a Step Colder plug for that kind of duty and not going to a lower grade than an Iridium or Ruthenium. It also is beneficial to have the oil up to operating temp before going higher than 3500rpm. There are an infinite number of drivers/owners that have no clue about engineering and friction to understand what damage they are doing revving their loud exhaust crackle and pops when first starting up the car OR starting it up and racing down the road like a lost puppy.

We don't get Millers LSPI in Aus. It's hard enough finding the correct Ford spec oil with the right A5 WSS number. They only seem to sell it here in Castrol Edge Proffessional 20L bottle at up to $400 a bottle. That's a really interesting video and good evidence backing up what you are saying. When I did they Stage 2 Showdown video, I definitely felt certain maps had a lot down low around 2000rpm and I meant a lot of punch. Glad I went with Revo for stage 2 now because you can feel how you get some low, a bit more after 2700ish rpm and then more again after 3000rpm. I guess boost and throttle control low down is taken into account with Revo.
@richardbull55612 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure why you are concerned about meeting the correct Ford WSS specification? Neither the WSS-M2C948-B (5w20) or the alternative WSS-M2C913-C (5w30) are API SN Plus or SP, and don't offer LSPI protection because it wasn't a well known issue when Ford wrote the manual.
@fordyford2 жыл бұрын
@@richardbull5561 to be fair lspi is a now known issue, but that is just one component of potential engine failure. By the sounds, not booting it under 3000rpm is good protection. Not using the right spec oil for the moving parts could also lead to premature wear on bearings and other moving parts etc. The engine still needs the right spec oil to be sufficiently lubricated.
@Sparkplugsteve2 жыл бұрын
If you use a oil that's ilsac gf6, you'll be fine. Ford motorcraft USA have got their own brand of lspi oil now and the spec codes match the millers lspi codes from ford. If you search ford motorcraft KZbin channel you will find their video and its all about the oil for ecoboosts.

@@Sparkplugsteve awesome thank you Steve. I appreciate the video and info. I just wanted to highlight to anyone reading that the engine parts themselves still need the right lubey lubey. You know what the internet is like, you will get people soley focussing on LSPI and disregarding what the moving parts actually need.
@richardbull55612 жыл бұрын
@@fordyford yes of course you want to use the right spec oil. But Ford just attaches a WSS code to whatever oil they are able to get their hands on, depending on location. And that spec is designed to suit many Ford petrol engines in the range (913C also is the 1.6 DIESEL recommend oil!) Ford doesn't make their own oil. Castrol magnatec meets the Ford M2C913-C spec. As does Penrite, Shell helix, nulon, Valvoline synpower and probably many others. If you read the history, manufacturers were loathe to recommend using an SN Plus when it was introduced around 2018, as that would have them admitting that their GDI engines suffered from LSPI. What I'm saying is, don't get caught up in trying to meet the WSS spec as well as being SN Plus or SP. As long as it meets the 5w30 spec and is fully synthetic you'll be fine, however if you want LSPI protection then make sure it's the latest SN Plus or SP. I wouldn't recommend using WSS-M2C948-B 5w20 here in Australia's summer heat.

That's because Collins are generic to suit every stage 2 car so they have to be safe because every car Is different and will behave differently even with the same tune, sabre is custom to the car so they know exactly how far they can push it, I have a sabre tuned focus rs and it comes in savagely aggressive but it's awesome fun and has never missed a beat.
