Fantastic and informative talk. My dog Erney was rescued from Texas, a hotbed for heartworm disease. All told he’s cost me 11K but at age 2 and a half, with the melarsomine treatment and months of bed rest, he was finally able to outrun and out-swim all his newfound pals on the beaches and mountains here in West Vancouver. Today he’s a mere happy and healthy 3.25 yrs of age! 🐾❤️

@@Hello-ye2bi It’s so sad how much of an epidemic it is down there. And in other states with similar climes. My heart aches to think about it.

@@MissMoxie we are trying to adopt another heartworm positive dog from Texas BUT the shelter (not the rescue) insists upon a "slow kill" before releasing the schnauzer to the rescue organization in NY. Meanwhile, the poor dog is suffering. Thank you for your support. I am so happy for you and your day. May you have many happy years together.

@@Hello-ye2bi The shelter where I got Erney from also didn’t understand that although fast kill is expensive and risky, slow kill ends up damaging your poor canine for 5-7 yrs! I didn’t tell them until after he was heartworm free that I chose fast kill, but he was my baby already and they had no more say in the matter. He’s my first dog of my own and has given me back so much in the way of love and laughter! Bless you for adopting, and especially the ones who need our help the most. 🥰🙏✨

What if in the mild to moderate endemic area, a well compliant patient is tested positive by a antigen test on annual testing but negative by the another antigen test. What next?

It really up to you to treat or not treat they really don’t care but the costs are the costs

I have missed giving a few preventive doses & winters are not cold here anymore. HW tests always come up negative. He has fast breathing all the time. Has enlarged heart & murmer. Now coughing. Cardio work-up 5 mos ago did not show any worms. Where do I find a better test?
