compared to cold hard and unapproachable car games, this game had some sort of spell, some charisma that I was not able to find. I was hopeful this was the future of racing games, and then it has never been topped since. They got the chemistry right in R4. Hasn't been duplicated since.

Composer Kohta Takahashi and singer Kimara Lovelace did such a good job here! I feel like late 90s to early 2000s Japanese games hired some great American singers in addition to Japanese ones. I love "I AM THE WIND" sung by Cynthia Harrell in the ending credits for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. She also sang "Snake Eater" in Metal Gear Solid 3. Sonic R soundtrack vocalist Teresa Jane Davis also come to mind.
