Thanks John for a very informative video. I never cease to be amazed with your knowledge with all things MG/B.....any topic, you have the answer! Just about to replace the front disc pads AND do the front bearings on my '71 MGB. Many thanks from the Land Down Under!

Absolutely fantastic simple video - could never understand the purpose of the shims until now. My MGC GT failed its MOT this week on a front bearing - I got it through the MOT with new bearings without using shims but knew the hub was rotating horribly and heating. Just re-assembled it this afternoon per John's instructions and, WOW, one beautifully rotating wheel. Many thanks!

great explanation John thank you but 240p definition makes it impossible to see clearly what you are doing. As this is such an important component to get right , how about remaking this at 1080p ?

Excellent explanation on both the how and why. Even my own MG-garage did not use the shims as they should, but tightened and then slackened the central wheelnut, despite having the proper shims in store! This matter about greasing was new to me: I did not find it in manuals elsewhere. Finding the exact end-float in combination with the prescribed torque range (40-70 lbft) and position of the splitpin takes some trying for amateurs like me. Putting the wheel on and shaking it helps testing.

Great video. I dont have an MG yet but Im definitely getting one! They look great to work on. I had to laugh when you removed the castle nut and said "Thats easy!". It sure isn't when its on the car and you find yourself swinging out of the breaker bar or the split pin breaks! LOL.

Awesome video! You say this is for the MGB. This video would be more useful to more people if you say what other models it applies to. MGA the same? TD? Thanks for the great video. Keep 'em coming!

How about one for SU fuel pump rebuilding? Or windshield rubber replacement? Why or how that rectangular thing on the dash with a red light is and does? How to rebuild the distributor, or free the mechanical advance? How to replace the thrust washers in a tube type axle?

Mahalo John, I am off to the garage to change the bearings (finally). Yeah, I heard that method for american cars (tightening), didn't like that....glad I understood what you are saying here....two things have to occur simultaneously (end-float and torque).

hi there, I have a 65 MG Mk11 with wire spokes (spinners) how do I get the hubs off?, there doesn't look like any practical ways that I can see. Thank you

Thank you for clearing up a lot of confusion John. I've read pro/con about the shims and I will set mine up as the manual and your video explains. When I disassembled mine, the left front was shimmed and the right front was not, so I am replacing the bearings and races and will shim everything as you've instructed. My only question is, is "tunk" a decimal inch measurement or metric measurement? :)
