I have been mixing propolis scraping and rubbing alcohol in a jar shaking it up to mix it every day or so. In your swarm trap inside paint a 1" strip in all bottom and wall joints/corners with mix, the alcohol will evaporate, so when the scout bees enter it smells like a bee hive as they crawl around on new wood in trap checking it out.

Put out my first 2 swarm traps 3 days ago. Today it's 63F in Delaware and bees are all over one of the traps. Bee's are bringing in orange, yellow, greenish and bright orange pollens.

Thank you again Jean Renée I’m using the dictation app. I noticed bees crowding the outside of your Layens in the image you showed to plug additional entrances with unscented swiffer sheets. I’m trying to understand that crowding outside more. Which configuration is that behavior seem on more on thick lumber, insulated ply or the wool insulation? Thank you and people are always asking questions on FB and when the question is right , I always send a link to your KZbin account . I do look for you at these pages. Who better to tell your story than yourself.

I see more bees bearding on my 3/4" thin walled hives than I do with the 2x lumber, but they all seem to do it once temps get around 90+ degrees F.

In the background I see the swarm traps have mostly slotted openings. One has 2 round holes. What is your reason for preferring the slots?

I'm actually leaning more towards the round holes. The bees don't care all that much, and I wanted to experiment a little.

Great tip I was wondering, if you could cut and attach it to wired frames the same way you would with starter strips?

You can, I've seen it done that way too on Langstroth frames. I just go with what's quick and easy and has worked for me in the past. All the best!
