POL-DO: Follow-up report: serious traffic accident on the A2 motorway near Dortmund-Lanstrop - passenger fatally injured
02.10.2018
Dortmund (ots) - Lfd. Item No.: 1341
As already reported with serial no. 1339, a serious traffic accident occurred on the A2 motorway near Dortmund-Lanstrop this Tuesday morning (2 October). According to initial investigations, traffic jammed on all lanes of the A2 in the direction of Hanover around 10:45 a.m.. The 68-year-old driver of a mobile home apparently did not recognize this in time. While trying to avoid the stationary vehicles, the motorhome collided with the rear of a truck. Large parts of the body were torn off and thrown onto the road. The camper continued rolling and finally hit another truck. The driver of the motorhome was slightly injured by the collision, whose 67-year-old co-driver (from Kiel) died at the accident site. A team from the Traffic Accident Prevention Department of the PP Dortmund appeared on site and took over the care of those involved in the accident. As a result of the traffic accident, there was a temporary backwater on the A2 motorway to the Kleine Herrenthey rest area. Traffic is currently diverted from the Dortmund-Nordost motorway junction. The police continue to ask road users to avoid the accident site on a large scale. The closure in the direction of Hanover is expected to last several hours.

VN24 - Fatal accident on the A2 at 10:45 am near Dortmund. According to initial findings, a backlog of traffic in the direction of Hanover occurred at a bridge construction site. At the end of the traffic jam, several trucks were involved in a rear-end collision. On the right lane the traffic came to a standstill. This was obviously overlooked by a motorhome driver from Kiel. He hit the end of the traffic jam with the large Hymer motorhome almost unbraked. The entire motorhome burst into a thousand parts. Debris was spread over more than 100 metres on the motorway. All that remained was the chassis. The passenger was thrown backwards with the seat back and did not survive the accident. The driver came to a hospital in an ambulance. A rescue helicopter with an emergency doctor landed on the motorway to care for the injured. The Hanover lane was completely closed. Afterwards, so-called privacy fences were erected along the accident site to prevent gaffers from obstructing traffic.
