58:09 mosfet can carry current in either direction when it is gated. The diode to show mosfet able to carry current in single direction may not be needed.

I have a question @1:06:30 , it is being told that if Vgs is removed then the capacitor will start discharging which keeps the MOSFET in ON state for a while. My question is that, when the square wave goes from from positive to zero, why doesn't the capacitor discharges then to keep the MOSFET in an ON state?
@gordonlee44843 жыл бұрын
When the function generator goes from positive to zero, it will discharge the input cap and turns off the mosfet. The professor was saying, if you turns off the function generator while the Vgs is high, then in this case "nothing" discharges the input cap and the MOSFET will stay on.

48:08 can someone smart explain to me why the voltage is measured from drain to source? where is the sense in that? "and the current is usually going into the drain and coming out of the source." this one makes sense. HOWEVER the next thing he does is drawing the current arrow from drain to source. This is consistent with the voltage but I dont get the naming. why is it going from drain to source?
@nnadozieeronini11487 жыл бұрын
skaterfugater a Mosfet is Voltage controlled current source basically. We use VGS to control the drain current. Therefore if no current flows into the gate that means the drain current will flow into the source. Thus iD=iS. We measure VDS for numerous reasons.one could be to find instantaneous power of the mosfet (VDS*ID). Depending on our mode of operation We also want to make sure VDS is >0 that is the VD is greater than the VS because current should flow from drain to source (higher potential to lower potential by convention). Hope this helps

Naming is according to the electron flow. Electrons enters at source and drains at drain. However the convention that science follow is that current flow is opposite to the flow of electrons. I hope this helps with naming conflict.

No professor it should be like this "Avarage power is Zero for a periodic signal provided Avarage voltage across it's terminal is zero". Average power will not be zero if the signal has DC offset.
@angel-rq4fz3 жыл бұрын
Periodic signal does not have DC so is obvious that the Average (DC) is ZERO ! Not everyone is a stick as you to not understand this obvious matter !
