Thanks for this video, it pointed me in the right direction as I was having this issue with my Sawstop contractors saw. I've replaced the centrifugal switch on mine and while the "burp" is less violent it's still there. I noticed that you had a similar result, did you ever get rid of it completely?

thank you for this video

I know this is super old but anyway...the centrifugal switch is part of the starter winding's. When the motor comes up to speed the switch fly open and break the contact dropping out the start part of the winding's at that point the run capacitor and like winding's keep the motor going. I did spot two capacitors on the motor yeah ?

Good to see a fellow Aussie youtuber. I just go a Sawstop contractor and am very happy with it. I noticed in a later video that you upgraded but didn't get a sawstop. Was there a specific reason for that?

I'm not sure what you're talking about - I still have only this same sawstop contractor saw!

Sorry Paul I thought the artisan 310 was a saw, I wasn't wearing my glasses and only saw the thumbnail. I have just subscribed and only watched a couple of your videos and like hearing a hometown accent with my wood ed classes. I just have to make sure that I put my specs on before making dumb comments

Ha, fair enough. If it helps, I got the Artisan 310 from the same place I bought my sawstop? :)

Great video. If the centrifugal switch is not releasing would this cause for the motor to draw higher current. My motor runs approximately 3amp without load and about 4-6 amp with load. I have found when the switch is not opening the current jumps to 22amps. The problem was a dead capacitor which I feel was the cause from the centrifugal switch not releasing when motor on. I find that the switch only doesn't release when the load is on the motor soon as I put some load after turning the motor on and off eventually the switch doesn’t release and the current jumps higher. The switch looks clean and no damage. Any help to diagnose is appreciated. Cheers

Very good video. I will need to fix a similar one that work with 230V single phase. BTW, how did you came to a conclusion that your switch was bad?

Use a multimeter to measure resistance. Generally, the resistance is less than 1om. Observe the surface condition of the contact, and it will be replaced if it is burnt.

Thinking of buying a Sawstop over a powermatic. What are your thoughts. Thanks
@TheWoodKnight8 жыл бұрын
+OnTarget100 In Australia, only a couple of the powermatic models are available and I would not get any of them over a sawstop. They're both very good quality machines, but one won't chop off your fingers. The price difference between powermatic and sawstops cabinet saws is pretty negligible.

Thanks so much for your help. Sawstop it is.

Following my previous comments the service department for Gabbett Machinery / I Woodlike (now SCM Group) have just now 05 May 2017 15:00 WST taken the machine back to their workshop to see if the can fix it. It would be nice to know if others are having similar issues.

Do you still have the part num of the switch
@murraypotts9247 жыл бұрын
PaulI have a very similar issue with my saw it keeps chucking belts on start up. Have looked at the centrifugal switch and all looks good. Did you replace the capacitor also and did it fix the problem? My machine has an intermittent fault on start up it shakes like sh...t and trips the overload. And when it runs it has a lot of belt flutter. I think the motor mounting bracket on this model is very feeble.
@TheWoodKnight7 жыл бұрын
+Murray Potts try shimming it and/or contacting support. They'll get you fixed up.
@murraypotts9247 жыл бұрын
Paul thanks for your reply; done all that still having issues. I am suspecting the issue is with that the start capacitor is breaking down because the problem occurs on start up. Wanted to see if other users, not associated with Sawstop, are having similar problems. I do not have another machine to compare it with. Anyway I will keep following it up with "I Woodlike". On another note I like your sled designRegards Murray

Sawstop in Australia? Who imports them?
@TheWoodKnight10 жыл бұрын
Gabbet Machinery (gabbett.com/). They're in all mainland cities except ACT, although they have more information out on their 'sister' site iwoodlike.com/ They all come 240v wired, so the contractor saw is 7.5amp rather than the 15amp the documents suggest!

My sawstop has an issue that it would be really loud and vibrate heaps sometimes when I turn it on, does anyone know what it could be?
@adojozza497 Жыл бұрын
I have the same issue. Did you manage to get it fixed?
@brewsterly29274 жыл бұрын
I can't work out what a belt coming off has to do with the centrifugal switch, or the capacitor for that matter. It has to do with alignment and tension. I think the problem was misinterpreted greatly, with communication probably the culprit.
@TheWoodKnight4 жыл бұрын
Ask sawstop. It was their help that gave me the options to try.

@@TheWoodKnight Well, they missed it by a ballpark.
