Gurupoornima 2024 - Discourse based on Bhagavad Gita & Srimad Bhagavatam
#bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam
In this talk, Ma helps us further explore the subject of devotion and the true devotee. In the seventh chapter of the Bhagavad Gita, Sri Krishna starts focusing on wholesome devotion. Though he is in a human form, he identifies himself with the Supreme and gives spiritual instructions to Arjuna.
Sri Krishna gives the assurance that when the seeker pursues Yoga taking refuge in the Supreme wholesomely, he will know the Supreme in entirety. He says that true spiritual seekers are few. Amongst them, those who strive to know God in preference to any other attainment, are still rarer. Very rarely one understands the supreme in its essence.
Krishna says that his inferior nature is divided into eight constituents-earth, water, fire, air and space, and the internal constituents mind, intelligence and ego. This is the Supreme’s eight-fold lower nature. The higher nature is the sentience by which the whole creation is sustained. It is the jeeva in the human personality. The physical body is animated and activated by the sentience or the spiritual presence.
Krishna says that all beings have emerged from the conjunction of the lower and higher natures of the Supreme Reality. This Supreme Reality is the origin and the dissolution of the universe. It is permeating everything and the entire existence is interwoven in the Supreme.
Bhagavad Gita speaks about how the one soul manifests many things with manifold properties. It is the taste in the waters, brilliance in the sun and the moon, the Om of all Vedas, and the will power in all humans. It is the divine fragrance of the earth, brilliance of the fire, life in all beings and the austerity in the ascetics. It is the eternal seed of all beings; it is the intelligence of the intelligent and the brilliance of the brilliant.
Ma says that when we introspect on these verses and make it our own, everything becomes divinized. We understand that everything is designed and controlled by the Supreme Lord. The mind, then, starts perceiving the whole creation as God’s and starts associating all interactions, actions and behaviour with God.
