The calcium does not enter into the reaction because its reduction potential of 2.87 volts is higher than that of sodium. Hence the sodium ions are reduced to metallic form in preference to those of calcium

Greetings Sir. Am watching from Africa. I have one question, as you said the purpose of CaCl2 is to lower the melting point but why is it added in such large quantities ( 2:3 )?

Greetings. One more question. One among the factors for preferential discharge of ions is concentration. By adding 2:3 ratio of NaCl : CaCl2 I see that calcium will be discharged in preference to sodium due to it's amount in the electrolyte, but it seems not to be the case. Please help me understand this. Thanks in anticipation
