Very interesting and well done video, I will definitely be using this in my own messer practice. What kind of system or manuscript do you use?

Sorry for my incompetence, but can techniques you show in your videos be used with hand-and-a-half 1700g 115cm Kriegmesser?

I'd prefer a two handed usage of such a messer - like a longsword.

Thank you for answer, also i like your videos a lot because you explain everything in a proper way, not like: "Swing, swing, thrust as far as you can, u won. You didn't? Well, that was your fault".

1700g sounds terribly heavy to me for a HaH sword. I expect 1H to be between 0.8 and 1.3kg and HaH to be 1.2 to 1.5kg. 2H can weight up to 5kg but usually stay below 3kg. If you use a HaH with 1.2kg in 1H, then its still fairly manouverable, but the bigger guard and grip make it a little awkward. If it's heavier, or has a high point of balance, then it will move like an axe, which is not very good for fencing.

How is the weight distribution?? Do you have the point of balance near the hilt or farther?

The POB is about 5 cm before the hilt.

That's interesting! I thought that because you gathered power in the turning of the arms, and by the looks of the weapon, it would be more "heavy", oriented farther from the hilt

Well seen - in fact I would prefer about 7 to 8 cm with a total weight of 1150g to 1250g in a real fight for a personal optimum of impact and control (with 1.35kg like the tessack it’s still ~5cm). But these are training tools and it takes some time for students to figure out a proper movement pattern. To insure safety in randori (we only only a mask and gloves) and to spare the arm of the practitioner, especially as long as the movements and directional changes are not really fluid, a eight between 1.0 and 1.1kg and a POB of ca. 5cm is the compromise we’ve chosen. But again: Well seen J

The Messers are made by Jiri Krondak, fabri-armorum.com/english/?id=tesaky.php The Messer is item #4, available in different weigths. We use the "feather" blade design.

Jiri sadly passed away, yes. His son continues the business but the website has been restructured. www.fabri-armorum.com/en/c/falchions-cutlass-saxes/
