Since i built my workbench vises i used two temporary handles for them. In today's episode it's time to make two another handles and fit them to the workbench. Preety simply project. As the bonus - they will be quiet handles ;) I decided to make some WORKBECH UPGRADE serie of videos wich i'll be upload for time to time. I hope it will be nice change for you :) BTW. Forgive me my blunt woodturning chisels - i haven't build my sharpening station yet. If you have any questions or sugestions just write a comment. Big thanks for my patrons! Cannot believe I just now discovered your channel. Don't know which is more enjoyable- your woodcraft or video making style. Well, woodcraft. It is to wood working what flying is to jumping, speedskating to slipping, sprinting to crawling. Thanks for documenting it because to witness the magic is a higher privilege than the world deserves. Thanks!

Ah yes! Noisy vise handles! The bane of my life. I'm fine with my lathe and circular saw and router and angle grinder and bench grinder and I can file sheet metal and hammer in nails, beat copper into shape and all that with no problem. But those bloody vise handles are deafening! It's a wonder that the neighbours haven't complained. I've tried playing loud heavy metal to drown out the sound of those infernal vise handles but I can still hear them. This could be just the solution I'm looking for.

Genius idea. Will add some leather to my vise handle as well! (It now has stops made of particle board. Really.) But...what I can't wrap my head around: you make these beautiful planes and yet you use a Frankenstein screwdriver that looks like it has been decomposing since the middle ages. Quite funny :) ( I can imagine and upcoming restauration video where you gold plate it)
@StavrosGakos4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I showed that screwdriver to make appetite for restoration video ;)

I also made the diameter precisely and simply drilled two dowels near the end of the handle. But not the ugly version. The dowels are only as long as needed and just a tiny bit longer than the diameter. Ok, it doesn't has a leather feature but it is simple and looks good.

I used a piece of pipe filled with lead and a couple of o rings. Unless it is in the way the handle stays centered. Between the pipe and the lead it has enough inertia that I can flick it open and flick it shut.

Pozdrawiam. Fajny warsztacik będziesz miał teraz.
@StavrosGakos4 жыл бұрын

Nice fix. Why would you plane the blank down before turning it? Your roughing gouge would make short work of a square blank and save you a whole operation.
@StavrosGakos4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! You have right but piece of wood was small and i was affraid to make it too thin. When i make it square and a little bit oversized i was sure i can get right diameters of the wooden rod. That option makes less mess also :) Regards!

Love your videos Think I am an old traditional joiner in a slightly younger body Bit disappointed you didn’t burnish the leather, not that it’s needed that and I was expecting the dowel to have minimal ( maybe a 1/16” ) movement once fitted. Still nice work. Just a question do you have a favourite tool? Maybe a plane? Or any other tool? That’s love your channel.

Personally I bought an Issac Greaves oval bolster mortice chisel, possibly dated 1800s. Handle and blade are in great nick. Love using it to cut mortices, have now bought some Mathieson chisels dated around 1850s, being from Glasgow love Mathieson tools. Pig sticker is still my favourite. There is something about handmade old tools, they have a totally different feel to them.
