These videos are in no way meant to replace the purchasing of commercially produced DVDs of SCTV. Making this series available is in no way meant to break copyright law. I am hoping fans of the series will have renewed interest in SCTV and will spread the word about this Classic Canadian Comedy Legend.
I have included all 185 episodes of the Syndicated Series of SCTV. Please note that the Syndicated Series has material not available on the current crop of DVDs, and also that the DVDs have material not available in the Syndicated Series. Please note that there is also material not available in either.
This means that at this time, the complete series is not commercially available for purchase. I hope you will consider signing the online petition at www.change.org...

I think this was a direct spoof of the Jerry Lewis Labor Day telethon Muscular Dystrophy child--only this spoof was used far more shamelessly to get viewers to give gold to keep SCTV on the air

3:21 Let me say something as a comedy "audience" member, in all seriousness. When Bittman came out I was ready for what they call in the business "hilarity" - "how are ya!", a few jokes, some "shtick" as it were. Then Bobby complained about the audience reaction, and at first I wondered - no no, even as big a Bittman fan as I am I really did think this - what the hell is he on about? But before he finished, he had me thinking about that live audience's reaction and frankly about my reaction at home. Here were those big stars of stage and screen giving their time for a good cause - for the kids. Did I give the standing ovation they deserve? Did I even put down cabbages and coffee I was enjoying, free my hands up to clap? Did I call a friend to say, "Hey, Bittman and Maudlin are on the tube, so turn on the set and give until it hurts?" No, I didn't. I was a little ashamed of myself and of that studio audience. For "show business" to thrive, for us to thrive as humanity, we all have to do better. Bobby Bittman reminded us all of that.

The price of gold on October 7, 1978 when this episode aired was $234.15/troy ounce. 2000 pounds of gold is 29,166.77 troy ounces. Thus they raised $234.15 X 29,166.77 = $6,829,399.20 Johnny LaRue (John Candy) weighed about 300 pounds. 300 pounds is 4,375 troy ounces. That comes to 4,375 X $234.15 = 1,024,406.25

I always fall down laughing when Sammy (Joe Flaherty) (08:36) berates the stagehand for bringing him tap water instead of "Perrier"--I guess ordinary tap water was too "low brow" for someone of Sammy's stature. LOL!!!

When I saw this t.v show on n.b.c. in the 80's I did not remember Andrea Martin impersonating Lorna Luf.
@michaelmcgee8543
@michaelmcgee8543 Жыл бұрын
I think the impersonation of Lorna was edited out of the n.b.c version of this comedy show just in case Lorna and Lisa would get offended by the joke and sue the station. this was never on the n.b.c version.

Uff da! I seem to vaguely recall that I had the misfortune of seeing a chunk of that Americathon film. That's time that was spent in the nearly-forgotten past that I could certainly make more effective use now, when I need it more than ever.
