This has been another of those walks of yours that have brought back a few memories, Patrick, so it's good to see you going more urban than is your customary wont! There have been a few trips to York in my time, in July 1978 when I was in the Sixth Form at Belper High School, very shortly before my first-ever trip abroad later that month in BHS's 'Projects Week' at the end of the Summer Term, to Nienburg/Weser, West Germany, May 2014 when - in like manner to the Belper Travel Society, referenced in my comments on your Walk No. 077 in Burnley - I was involved in Enjoying Derby, who mostly did led walks in and around Derby, but who also did coach trips to places further afield and finally February 2015 - a matter of months before your walk here - in an unfortunately unsuccessful trip for an interview for being a Tour Guide at York's Chocolate Story, a brief glimpse of which we get in your video. I think my greatest memories of the May 2014 visit was stumbling across the former Odeon Cinema - now known as the Reel Cinema - which was way up my architectural street, being Streamline Moderne and finding a couple of fascinating books on York's popular music scene at WH Smith, 'Rhythm And Romance' on the 1920s to the 1960s and 'Something In The Air' on the 1950s to the 1970s. I didn't know that York was such a 'happening' place in that respect with its relatively 'sleepy' reputation and that these were the origins of the composer of the 'Juke Box Jury' signature tune, John Barry. Turning to the February 2015 visit, although I didn't come away with that 'dream job' I did come away with a picture sleeve-packaged single of Séverine's greatest-ever Eurovision Song Contest Winner - in my opinion - 'Un banc, un arbre, une rue' from the British Heart Foundation shop on Bridge Street, which is at my KZbin channel. Finally, it's good to see that you picked a 'Girls Of The Golden East' birthday for your visit, since that'd have been Hana Zagorová's 69th!

This film brought back a lot of happy memories for us Patrick , as we spent some time here in august -2015 , id travelled to york as a boy because it was a railway mecca ,so it was nice to take lee on a tour of the railway museum , you walked in a lot of areas that we covered during our stay , including the wonderful Cliffords tower ..can i just say that if you ever travel over to the city of Chester ...that too is a walled city with a wonderful cathedral , and i can highly recommend it Patrick ... Thank you so much for this film and for stirring so many happy memories for us both .... Frank and Lee

I love York, I wanted to get to the railway museum too, but there was just no time in the end. I was happy with the walk around the city walls and the minster of course. I've not been to Chester, aside from passing through it once or twice, so I do intend to visit one day. Thanks again forwatching Frank and Lee. Cheers, Patrick :-)

That was fabulous Patrick. Another top notch tour. I remember vaguely going there at about the same age. My dad was a Northerner and we were visiting friends. It's the wall that appears in my mind. And what a wall it is. You had perfect conditions, which was just right to get all them sights in. Well done on this oldy. All the best. Mark

Hey there Mark, thanks for giving this one a watch. Ah so your Dad was a Northerner? Yes that wall is amazing and, like you've said yourself, that was what stayed in my mind too from my visit as a 9 year old. I was on my way to Scarborough when I shot this back in 2015, and yes it sure was a glorious day. Thanks again Mark and all the best. Cheers, Patrick :)

You had lovely weather for your day there Patrick,I go to York that often that I was actually looking for myself amongst the passers by,I thought I knew York and it's history quite well but I still learned some new things in your film. The music that you write and play yourself to accompany these films is always lovely, but on some it really stands out and goes so well with the film, and sticks with you, this was one of those occasions. Fantastic as always. All the best. Pete.

I was indeed lucky with the weather here, but I've generally found that September has been more reliable for good weather than in some of the summer months. I felt I wanted to film York because I knew which place I would be filming next, so it was important to me to shoot in this lovely city before making that next film. Thanks as always for your lovely comments Pete, much appreciated :)

@@solitaryrambler I'm pretty sure it is roughly around £8 for two hours. We had to park there for a few hours while my daughter was going through her Uni paperwork!
